Cool Let me introduce myself!

I just posted this in the New Members Forum - mistakenly thinking it was New Members in the Parkinson's Disease "zone" but it wasn't - so this is me! I thought it best to link rather than copy/paste! hope y'all agree

copying from where i posted originally-

Welcome brockie; your post got my attention because I live near the Kennedy Space Center iin Florida, and understand the thrill of watching the space program in action.

We have quite a few here now from your side of the pond.
Always room for another. Don't laugh - I've heard the word bollox before but have to admit I really don't know what it means. Anyhow, it doesn't offend me.

Welcome to the forum brockie. There are a lot of great people here with most of the answers to your questions. If anyone can lead you astray here, it's Paula. Just kidding Paula. We look forward to your input.

Hiya Brockie welcome to the forum...I hail from northern AZ, the small town of Page (blink and you'll miss it) which is near the popular Lake Powell & Glen Canyon National Park. It's hot, windy and smokey here right now!
This is a great forum, very informative and lots of fun people...

Default hello

Hello Brockie

So nice to meet you!
Welcome to the site.
There are a lot of neat people here.
Some are quite brilliant and keep us
informed on the latest research.
Glad you are here.
Sorry you have pd, though.
It sucks.

Thank you for the welcome! 'tis much appreciated!

Hi SuffolkChris - yeps, I recognised your name from the UK site! Nice to see a familiar "face!

paula_w - lucky you to be on the Space Coast! I have only managed to be at Kennedy for one shuttle landing a couple of years ago and never for a shuttle launch, but I was there for a night-time Atlas Rocket launch also a few years back now! Just amazing! I try to visit chums near Tampa a couple of times a year and just love how disability-friendly everwhere is!!

Hi Greg - for the moment I am reading in and having questions answered as I go. I must say that in the past year I have also bought some books - my favourite is in the Dummies series - "Parkinson's for Dummies". The organisation aspects are, of course, American, but the approach to tackling life with the disease is great!

EmptyNest - kewl name! Is that because your kids have flown the nest or are you an avid bird-spotter? I must look up Page, AZ, on the internet - I am sure it is a very different world my from suburban SE London England

Hi maryfrances - you are spot on! PD does suck and I would prefer to be the me I was before, but that ain't gonna happen so ... I'm in for the ride!!

brockie-I was child-less until the end of May, when my 17 yr old son moved back in with us. He had been living in Phx, AZ with his dad the past few years. They weren't getting along, and Josh was making some bad choices; he recognized the need for more guidance and wanted to move back in. Naturally, being his mommy, I am ecstatic to have him back! So no longer the emptynester....
Page is a small town with big dreams-but considered the hub of many well visited attractions...during the summer the town is teeming with tourists from all over the world. Page is on a redrock mesa; the Colorado river runs by in the canyon; there are very few trees, and those are cedars, which are more shrub-like. Lake Powell, which formed from the Colorado river when Glen Canyon dam was built, is a popular destination for summer campers, boaters, etc. The lake is one of the largerst man made lakes-there are more than 3000 miles of shoreline.
I was born in Fairfax, Virginia; grew up in Phoenix, AZ and met my husband on a cmaping trip to Lake Powell (he lived up here) so that is how I ended up in Page. I have always wanted to go to England, Scotland, Italy....one of these days!
Take care-Steph

Welcome, Brockie! As you have learned by now, this is a terrific bunch of parkies. Your input and questions are always welcome. We are in the business of sharing knowledge, information, support, and levity; each when appropriate (or not! ).

Default American's patriotism

Hi everyone,

I'm doing better, but not great. I'm jumpy tonight and am soon going to bed so I'll catch up with you guys tomorrow (well, hopefully!)

A few of you commented on the Space Center so I wanted to post something. My older brother use to work for Boeing, quit when the division began due to the Union and (main reason) ... some, like my brother, held his position against the union but others didn't.

Anyway, he took a new position in Detroit (designing car seats) which was a whole lot more boring after designing fighter jets! He lasted there two years and is now in California with a smaller company, designing fighter jets again!

Coincidently, he sent me a link earlier in the week about some of those fighter jets. Check it out. As a prelude to the link, please read the following:

Amid all the 787 roll-out hoopla, perhaps the coolest event went
unnoticed. On Saturday night, Boeing had all of the 787 airline
representatives at an event at the Museum of Flight. At 7:07 PM, an
Omega Air Refueling Services 707 landed in front of the crowd (after
taking off from Paine Field in Everrett). At 7:17, an AirTran 717
landed. This continued until 8:17 when an Air France 777-300ER landed.
In the end, the 717, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 were lined up
nose-to-tail on the taxiway. It is the first time Boeing has had every
7-series airplane in the same place (not counting the 787, which
couldn't make the flight, of course).

Let me know what you think! It doesn't take much to please me ...

Terri
