The Azilect doesn't seem to help at all and I am starting to have my doubts about my doctor.. At any rate I have been doing some reading about mucuna pruriens, ashwagandha, lion's mane extract etc. and it makes my head spin. I would like to try a more natural route- and am curious to know how long you need to cycle off the incredibly toxic Azilect before you can safely incorporate new treatments....anybody have to wean off Azilect... Also trying acupuncture and healing touch.... Whew.... Thank you
Hello Veronica,
Your symptoms sound a lot like those of the initial symptoms of my sister. If you look at my other posts, you will see her story. If you are looking for an alternative approach, I suggest you google "Amino Acid Therapy" and Marty Hinz. There are threads on the website about it, too. My sister had tried may alternative approaches, too. The Amino Acid Therapy saved her! I wish it had been available in the early stages of her neuro issues. I wish you well!
Blessings,
Sue

i suggest you read this very long graduate thesis
BEANS, ROOTS, LEAVES THE HISTORY OF THE CHEMICAL THERAPY OF PARKINSONISM
https://opus.bibliothek.uni-wuerzbur.../dissfoley.pdf
enter ROOTS LEAVES TWIGS PARKINSONISM in a search if the link doesn't work.

if goes the the long history of all the natural treatments tried before sinemet came out. and a lot of things were tried.

my only other advice is try carbidopa/levodopa and see if it works and establish a "baseline" to compare any natural treatment to. it might take a few weeks to work up to an effective dose and it shouldn't take long to discontinue it. keep in mind that while carbidopa is synthetic, levodopa occurs naturally in mucuna. it's a simple amino acid.

if you are working, it sure is much easier to take a few small pills a day, less than .5gram vs many doses of grams of mucuna.

Default apples and oranges

Its been my experience that mucuna differs somewhat from CD/LD....and when I first tried mucuna I did noot respond well to it . Only after having taken CD/LD for several years did the mucuna yiield a positive effect.....one in some ways superior to CD/LD.....just my two
