Lightbulb "The Biology of Belief " -author Dr Bruce Lipton

Author Dr. Bruce Lipton, a former medical school professor (University of Wisconsin) and research scientist (Stanford University School of Medicine), is a leading scientific researcher in the field of Epigenetics (new biology) and has written a book called

"The Biology of Belief - Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter & Miracles". In the details of his experiments, examining in great detail the molecular mechanisms by which cells process information, have revealed that genes do not in fact control our behavior, instead, genes are turned on and off by influences outside the cell. These influences include our perceptions and beliefs. He shows that our beliefs, true or false, positive or negative, affect genetic activity and actually alter our genetic code.

To the Chinese, this is really nothing new. While they did not know specifically about DNA, genes and other aspects of the cell and biology, the Chinese have known for millennia that "The mind controls the chi, and the chi control the body". They've know all along that the mind is the true regulator of your health, life and destiny. It's not the unconscious, not fate, not your DNA or genes or anything else. While we do know that the subconscious can exhibit a powerful influence on our habits and beliefs, often times this is because of the negative reinforcement and bad programming that we got before the time that we were six years old, which is when so much of who we are and what we think and believe was formed.

Via the powerful vehicle of meditation, coupled with breathing, dietary changes and physical exercise, we can exhibit a powerful influence on our body's systems including our genes, the mind and spirit and begin to reprogram our minds to strip away bad habits, doubt, fear and negative programming that are keeping us down or holding up back from attaining our goals and dreams in life and even those negative thought patterns that are making us sick.

Dr. Lipton's work is very important because it will finally start to debug the myths that we're all subject to our genes.

Red face new tabloid standards applied to cover of Newsweek

The placebo effect has shown that to be true. So now what? Are we going to spar about it for years, inviting no patients? Is the placebo effect going to be fashionable in certain political groups? But no no to the miracles of believers? Attitude/bias adjustments needed in opinions of the narrow, political subhumans, who are in the pocket of the global leaders, who remain unknown, but could be younger.

i wonder if prince edwaurd [edward]? or is it Albert, of Monaco, can talk without saying you know uh 500 times in 5 minutes?

May i be so bold as to ask who is unable to adjust to the fact that placebo effect can't be defined by those who are not in the situations that create them. it's like a computer class without the computers.

Wondering about what was discussed or the plan of action? I'll go check the site ...

Spiritual miracles i hope last longer than the placebo effect. there are so many more critical problems that can prove where your head and heart are. it's a journey , if analyzed, failures mourned, paths corrected or tried, u wonder if you can still get up. it's a significant step to turn it over to God.

Trust is everything.

Respond as if I were muslim. we are all equal right? there shouldn't be any difference because the bond is parkinson's ...it should'nt matter....we need a team. not a liberal one, or a wealthy one, not a political one, or competitive one, interchanges of dislike and disrepect toward certain groups needs to stop. there is more to life than stem cell research and gay marriage. Bashing parties - bashing peope for how they think -i don't see america in any of those behaviors - where is the nearest tea party in my area?

to complete the journey successfully, i believe one must not think of what you want; it's all about what you are GIVING, when you believe that, you can love yourself ,then maybe work some magic of healing.

back to the video. Christianity is not dying...newsweek said that several yrs ago too. ..but the push is there and there are people trying very hard to make it appear so.

it's a spirit...and scientists expect biology......they need to at least summon up a little of their own spiritual nature to tap into these dimensions, don't u think? i 'm not opposed to some of the ideas....but the trial designs.....and the goal is lofty -

what do we expect to come out of this..? tangible evidence of what? they'll just fight over it.

needed to release some energy..working almost exclusively with video....if it weren't uncomfortable and painful sometimes, i would be loving it - still am. it's a lot of work, can still send pictures of spitting or send 2 to 4 pictures that tell a liitle about your history from "mgh" to neurotalk. must send soon to spit4pd@gmail.com

i have an idea that i think some my age would like...would you please email me to see if you like it? don't want to give anymore away.

thank you,

Default Balance

Referring to the quotes in the first post: I believe in miracles, and I believe in the power of the mind. Not that the article does so, but this must never lead to blaming the patient for their sickness, especially in the realm of cognitive impairment. I, for one, have heard "if you'd just..." about a million times more than I need to.

Default I believe

Question:

Why is it so easy for us to believe that exposure to a toxin sometime in our life corrupted our genes and gave us Parkinson's (the current theory of the "environmental trigger" causing idiopathic PD), yet it is so difficult for us to believe that exposure to a healthful environment might have the opposite effect, be beneficial and, yes, curative?

By the time we realize we have PD, it is often too late for many of us to easily stay on a new path to wellness, as Jaye mentions, because our behaviors have been corrupted as well.

But that doesn't mean that wellness won't work - it just means we need help and understanding to stay on the path. That's the big disconnect; it's easy to say "do it!"; doesn't mean it's easy to do.

I imagine this is just the kind of science that Sergey Brin (or anyone else with the same profile) is looking to when he surveys the choices he has right now looking at a future with possible Parkinson's. One possibilty might be a new growth factor or other restorative bullet; other possibilities might be meditation, exercise and diet.

In fact, those of us without a familial "PD gene" might have a leg up; maybe the manipulation of our own environment can extend our lives, just as something unknown in our environment may have shortened it.

Whatever - it's an exciting, meritorious area of research. The "PD gene pool" being created by 23andMe will be able to support all kinds of research that have to do with gene manipulation, whether by diet or drug. It would be nice to be able to measure success however it is achieved!

Default Time and again....

....we see the effects that our thinking has upon our condition when stress knocks us for a loop. There is nothing more going on in that example than our mind wrestling with itself. No lion, tiger, or bear - just a deadline or other idea that we have accepted as being important, even if it is not really so. Entirely within our mind we have the power to render ourselves totally helpless in minutes. Absolutely no one nor any thing is required but us.

So, as Indigogo and others have pointed out, why is it hard for us to accept that the opposite power might exist? When we are rigid and miserable, if we are fortunate enough to have someone to rub our back and shoulders, is the endorphin flood that results not an example of that power? If we sit quietly and concentrate on the memory of that massage is there not an echo that is also an example?

Dopamine is about movement but it is also about pleasure and the anticipation of pleasure. We need pleasures both large and small and we need to anticipate them....with pleasure! Spoil yourself and just get down and roll around in the sensation. Let it soak into your bones. You've been a good scout all your life. Dare to be totally selfish for one hour per day. Tell 'em Dr. Feelgood prescribed it.

Au contraire, my dear. In some respects your thinking has never been clearer.

Paula, I am hearing a mixed message, and probably am not alone in this, so I am asking for clarification. When you say "there is more to life than stem cell research and gay marriage," it sounds as if you are deciding what other people's priorities should be and "bashing them for what they think." You call this behavior unAmerican, and I agree with you. It is even more untenable for Americans to make any segment of our population second class citizens by denying them rights accorded to everyone else. As you said, "We are all equal, right." Perhaps if you had a gay child or grandchild, you would not see this as such an insignificant issue.

Default more false assumptions

Sheryl,

I do have gay relatives in my immediate family, not my children, but in my family I grew up with. More than one.

My point was, I find labeling and defining people in groups, categories, such as gay, Christian, left, right, liberal, conservative promotes hatred and could lead to violence. I could switch your statement around and say, 'if you had a conservative Christian for a son, maybe you would understand the feelings stirred up by the blatantly unsubstantiated cover of Newsweek.' point is - no one should be bashing anyone else on the cover of magazines with false headlines. It's blatantly provocative. or..

If the next cover of Newsweek says, 'gay marriage rights are dead' ....your reaction would likely be something like ....'says who?' How many Americans did they talk to to get that headline? Who was the authority to decide this is so?

It is assumed that if you are a certain "category" of person, or belong to a certain group, that it follows that you are a whole list of things. Chances are that list would include false assumptions, [lies] and it would be insulting. Life is one long high school. Gay marriage and stem cell research are two of the most prominent examples of what has caused serious division in our country.

I'm an individual, hatred does not motivate me, it's not my job to figure all of this out or to bash people who don't see it my way.. We'd all be better off if we focused on what we can positively give to society, not on angrily attacking anyone who doesn't have the same values. Gay marriage has been given many chances; that's a result of our constitution. It will continue to be in litigation. In Iran, according to their leader as he spoke in our country. "we have no gays."

America tolerates and saves everyone. We are going to destroy from within, and it will be the left/right division that does it. nothing good comes from hatred, division and condemnation.

So you will be tolerant if the independent militias in Idaho protest big government? It is irrelevant that the majority doesn't share their values
right? They have a right to live freely also. correct? No, I'm not comparing gays to militias, i'm comparing the reasoning .

This country hasn't even seen the radical right..except in Oklahoma city. So far they are defined [ridiculously so and with prejudice] as people of faith, but not all faiths, mostly Christianity.

People of faith have done much to accept gays into their churches in the last 30years or more. Society has not reciprocated. This is demonstrated in excellent fashion by the cover of Newsweek - tabloid.

Default live and let live as long as no one being hurt

Paula, I only addressed your comment about gay marriage. I certainly don't condone sensational, unsubstantiated magazine covers about anyone or any group of people. Nor do I believe that conservative Christianity is dead or even dying.

I agree that gay marriage and stem cell research are two of the most prominent examples of what has caused serious division in our country.
Who can disagree that "We'd all be better off if we focused on what we can positively give to society, not on angrily attacking anyone who doesn't have the same values." The problem occurs when discrimination becomes an acceptable "value." If we really want tp make the world a better place, everyone will have to mind their own business and not try to dictate to others what constitutes a marriage or a family. If heterosexual marriage represents the ideal, why have we still not figured our how to eliminate spousal abuse, infidelity, and divorce?

The fact that gays -- like Christians and women -- are treated better here than in Iran is hardly worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize. I would hope we strive for a higher standard

You say "We are going to destroy ourselves from within, and it will be the left/right division that does it. nothing good comes from hatred, division and condemnation." This does not have to be our legacy if we learn to live and let live.

I support free speech for all points of view, even neo Nazis. This includes my right to demonstrate against them on the other side of the street. As a journalist, I understand that every right taken away from one group is also taken away from me.
