Default McGill's Neuroscience Institute and open science

McGill Neurology will no longer patent researchers' findings, instead everything will be open access / Boing Boing

This is good news. In my opinion publicly funded institutions should not patent their research. The strategy of trying to get a portfolio of patents:
- distorts the priorities of what should be researched;
- makes collaboration harder;
- leads to excessive prices;
- diverts research money to the lawyers.

I have nothing against private sector companies applying for patents, providing that they act responsibly.
