Default Squalamine research paper

Besides the press release, the research paper itself is also available.

My thanks to Simon Stott for pointing us to this:

"Orally administered ENT-01 [a synthetic squalamine salt] was safe and significantly improved bowel function in PD, suggesting that the ENS is not irreversibly damaged in PD. Minimal systemic absorption suggests that improvements result from local stimulation of the ENS. A double-blind, placebo-controlled study is now ongoing."

Client Request Error

Of particular interest is the part of the claim that says "the ENS [enteric nervous system] is not irreversibly damaged in PD".

Default "ENT-01 for PDD" trial

A sentence in the Discussion section caught my eye:

"We observed potential signals of clinical benefit for parkinsonism, cognition, hallucinations, sleep and RBD."

And it seems they are wasting no time. Enterin are also currently running a trial of orally-administered ENT-01 for Parkinson's disease dementia (NCT03938922):

Thanks.

I hope that the trial gives encouraging results.

This is personal for me because an uncle of mine in NZ lived with PD for many years and towards the end had lost a lot of cognitive function.
