A recent report shows that squalamine (made by a kind of shark) can block α-synuclein aggregation as well as its toxicity in a human cell line and in a worm model.

Hi kiwi33,
A thread on this topic was started last month (same research paper): Steroid [squalamine] Attacks PD-Related Toxin [a-syn clumps] in Animal Model [worm] |

Sorry jefferyn.
The paper in its final form is in the latest issue of PNAS (Volume 114(6), 7 February). I got my regular automatic email advisory of PNAS issues this morning and it did not occur to me to check if somebody might have noticed it in pre-publication form.

No worries, kiwi33.
The other thread didn't generate any discussion, but there was some discussion in a similar thread elsewhere. Summary of the discussion: - may be more work needed regarding possible uncertainty in degree of penetration of the blood-brain barrier; - available supplement (Squalamax) contains a very small amount of squalamine; - overall: potentially important development but still some way to go. |

Since it will take forever to clinical trial these, anyone who wants to take the risk and self dose maybe can find a source to buy trodusquemine. Somewhere in these articles it mentions that squalamine does not cross the b/b.
