Default SoPD overview of Deep Brain Stimulation (including research on 'no surgery' option)

From the SoPD blog, a pretty good overview of DBS (IMHO), including links that give more detail.

Thanks jeffreyn.

That is very interesting and Cell is one of the top journals (impact factor ~29) so I reckon that others will take the paper seriously.

As a personal aside, I wish that a much-loved uncle of mine, who died from PD a couple of years ago, had had access to DBS. He lived in a small town in NZ and got reasonably good care but DBS was not available for him.

Thanks kiwi33. I just thought that the SoPD blog's overview of DBS (including the 'no surgery' option) might be of interest to some people.

Research on this 'no surgery' option was first brought to our attention by Blackfeather last month.

i hope a biological treatment comes to market that will be as effective as DBS. To be a little cynical, there's a lot of money to be made by the medical establishment after the DBS from programming sessions and battery replacement which likely isn't the case with cell or gene implants. I think the DBS 2.0 is probably more than 5 years in the future, more likely 10 since recruitment of candidates might be a problem. changes to DBS 1.0 already take years.
