Sunshine 'protective' against MS
Guess spending time at Coquina Beach in Florida as a child...fourth generation native here...saved me from MS, but not from PD...LOL...not a laughing matter I know! beach life Some sun can be a good thing People who spend more time in the sun as children subsequently have a lower risk of developing multiple sclerosis (MS), a US study shows. The University of Southern California team suggest UV rays offer protection by altering the cell immune responses or by boosting vitamin D levels. An earlier study found women who took vitamin D supplements were 40% less likely to develop MS. The latest research is published in the journal Neurology. It always comes back to the BBB. I found "Vitamin D is vital for the maintenance of the blood/brain barrier" in http://www.davidwheldon.co.uk/ms-cpn-qa.html Very interesting, I found a forum discussing the influence of the BBB permeability on MS! http://www.thisisms.com/ftopicp-16313.html Someone even recommended curcumin as a supplement.!! |
