This may be true, but a bridge being hit by a freighter...not relevant?
And not to irritate anyone, but is there no news...good or bad...coming from any other part of the world; e.g. how many car bombs in Iraq yesterday and today? One would never know from the news channels today.

Carolyn,

I described it as a different scenario, not irrelevant. Sorry if it sounded that way.

Muslim pirates have on several occasions taken tankers in the South China sea, so they could practice steering them. Scary thought! A liquified Natural Gas tanker could have the explosive power of a small A-bomb.

Default vulnerability

whether from within or without, natural or human causes, we are vulnerable to all sorts of tragedies and disasters. it's overwhelming to think about; I've switched to comedy for the rest of the day! (is that putting my head in the sand?)

Very smart move Carey. There is only so much we can take and to recognize this and give yourself respite is a very smart thing to do.

Paula, sorry I took it poorly! And, I am most sensitive about the Iraq war these days. I also feel that the news channels spend way too much time competeing for who can get the most out of witnesses and emergency crews, etc. It is a shame. I do have nightmares about my son from time to time. My greatest fear is to hear the knock on my door...

I do agree with Carey and Curious...on to something that involves smiling, even if it means the Comedy Channel, which is not normally on my list...ugh...can be too crude for me to watch. Nice to see there are blogs and websites out there for just Good News...thanks Curious.

Default people are amazing

This event, in spite of the horrific loss of life, is really more a story about survival. I am amazed at how many of those people survived, including the school bus children, and, incredibly, people who fell 60 feet, some sinking to the bottom of the river, and getting out.
