Profile KC Tower
Profile Date July 11, 2004 18 months DX Sex Male DOB 1948 Residence Burnaby BC Canada moved a few times but a Burnaby lifer DX 01/2003 Age at DX 54.9 Physicians GP Nuero MDS now referred to Parkinson specialist at UBC Physicians Location Same city Primary Symptoms Tremor right side Functional Impairments Getting older and slower, still do anything I want but IT is coming. Good thing I am not a piano player because I would be a slow right hand. Medications Normally none 24/06/04 for 6? Weeks drug trial NS2330 No plans to start anything after the trial but getting closer Supplements Multivitamin and low dose CoQ10 (feel it is generally soothing if nothing else) Exercise Try to do a minimum of 3 runs of 3-5 miles on the treadmill each week unless I have found a strenuous project to work on for the day. Other miscellaneous activity as comes up. I find that generally the more I do, the better I feel. Concentrating on dropping a bunch of weight(30 lbs dropped so far) gained due to diet and a sedentary job and lifestyle. Need to start some rhythmic arm exercise similar to the legs in walking as I feel that would help the arm quite a bit. Mental aspects I feel that I have accepted the DX and future fairly well, don’t feel much decline in intellect if any, have short term memory loss in testing but don’t see a functional impact (Rose colored glasses???) Wondering if I am becoming more fixated on small issues of either little or minor importance in the scheme of things if I don’t think they are right. Inability to do clean sweep of all the old things I have accumulated that are just plain and simply of no more use. Balance Still OK DBS No Other health issues No Education Tech Diploma – Civil, 2yrs Univ. science Occupation Computer Specialist - former Work Retired 03/2003 Decision to retire or privatize had to be made 1wk prior to DX !stress! Glad I chose retirement. Can now look at anything if I choose to do so. My wife still works for the privatized company (Accenture subsidiary) so there is a lot of personal feeling involved over the fate of all the staff. We were both close to 30 years service at the date of privatization. I miss the technical aspects of working for the large company but am not ready to look for anything else quite yet and wouldn’t want to have a job with time constraints now. PD is not really an issue yet but soon will be I am sure. Family Married 23 years wife younger and working as a part time consultant Boy 20 Girl 17 Support Kids ignoring it – I always do things wrong anyway..... Wife supportive but I question her understanding of the situation and progression. Hobbies Computer, photography, model railroad, woodworking (making sawdust), tropical fish, reading, puttering - all in various cycles. I guess you would have to add TV and housework. Cooking is frozen and tins. What do I do?? Nothing I don’t want to – (as close as possible). |
