This is NOT the trial I am in, but it is at the same location - Institute for Neurodegenerative Disorders (IND) at Yale, New Haven CT.

They are looking for PWP and healthy people to participate in this study. The folks at the IND are terrific to work with.

Why is the level of serotonin transporter density (SERT density) so important for us to know? I don't think it's worth the risk for us to take an injection of a drug, just to find out if the drug is safe to use. That's the kind of guinea pig I don't want to be.

"Blood will be taken with each acquisition, and the safety and characterization of 123-I mZINT will then be assessed. The procedures to assess safety will include the taking of vital signs, serum chemistries, complete blood count, urinalysis, and electrocardiogram (EKG)."

I don't know about the SERT density.

This isn't my trial, but i went through the same steps with beta-cit before my scans - injections, blood work, they watched me carefully, making sure there were no adverse events.

And as has been said over and over - it's an individual decision whether to participate in clinical trials or not. But for every treatment we use today, humans signed up, took their chances, and were experimented on. It's the only way we get new treatments.

at Yale almost 10 years ago. This was for imaging of the dopamine transporter, not the SERT transporter as in this study. I gather that it's just to test a newer radioligand for the sert transporter, and they are trying to get PWP because they know that most of us are deficient in this area.
Off topic-had a radio stress test last tuesday at Yale, I came home and tested myself with my geiger counter. I was off the limit for 2 days and am only starting to "Sette down" now. Scary stuff

what isotope did they use?? Usually Iodine isn't it?? I seem to recall that has a half life of 24 hours??
