Book OT - thought provoking book

I just finished reading a book by Elizabeth Moon -“the Speed of Dark” – an award winning novel (in the science fiction section). It’s the tale of an autistic man who is faced with the decision of going through experimental surgery to become ‘normal.’ This is in the future in a time when all babies with autism are cured.

It’s not something I would normally have picked up, but a dear friend has an autistic grandchild, so I thought why not?! Anyway this book is thought provoking. It does give insight into the minds of those with autism. But more than that, it’s about who we are and how we see ourselves and how others see us.

and here is the part that is "On Topic:"

It really made me think about myself and my life: It’s also about advances in science and the brain and Informed Consent and researchers whose goals may or may not be in the best interests of the patient.
