Do you know (or could you guess at) a metric equivalent for a 00 capsule?
250 mg? 500 mg?
Is there a typical H20 - Mucuna mix for a starting point (2.5g in 8oz)?
Up here in Canada they do things a bit differently... ;P

John

Sorry to bud in, but I've been taken Mucuna for a few months now and I can tell you that it works for me. 3 pinches with my pills is what I take, no measuring, just 3 pinches. I carry a little case with me and when It's time for my pill, I also take my Mucuna. I take a pill every 3 hours but they only last for 2 1/2 hours, so I'm off by the time I take my next dose and that's where the M comes in. It's fast acting 15 to 30 mins. I'm on again.

I've told my Euro Doc about it and all he said is send me the link from where you buy it.

Anyway, just thought I'd put my 2 cents in.

water, dosing, etc

I eventually settled on a plastic bottle that one of my meds had come in. Put the mucuna in, add an ounce or so of water, shake with your thumb on the cap, pop the lid and take it down like a shot of whiskey. Has the advantage of "just add water".

Claude- Do you trust the doc? Sure he's not wanting to turn his efforts against your source?

You mentioned that you went off before the next pill, again and again. That is purportedly bad for you. The roller coaster effect hastens decline.

I agree with you and that's why I'm going to start 1 1/2 pills. I've already spoke to my doc about it.

As far as turning his efforts against my source, I ever thought of that, I assumed he was just curious and wanted to be more informed. I was honest with him, I hope he is the same with me.

By the way, thanks for telling me about the roller coaster hastening my decline, good thing to know, I didn't realize this but from now on I'm going to take better control of my pill times.

My new motto

Be on time and be healthy

Thanks for the method, REV; much appreciated.

I'm also in need of a starting point for dosage. After reading back through this thread, it seems that a lot of people are on the mucuna jointly with Sinemet or something equally heavy. I'm still a newbie (dxd under 2 years ago), and am on a GSH, Amantadine and (other typical) supplements program; the "newbie" part kicks in when I read phrases like "1.5 pills," as I have no idea what that refers to.

I'd really like to try the Mucuna but can't yet find a MD or ND up here (Toronto, Canada) who's heard of it.

Can someone with experience offer an opinion re: the issue of a starting point for dosage?

welllll....

If you were already taking sinemet I would suggest that you not add the mucuna. But since you are not, it would be interesting to know your experience.

I carry a little with me for emergencies / rescue use. It really doesn't take much - a medium sized capsule opened and mixed with food or water. Maybe the amount one could fit onto a one cent piece.

John,

My bad and I apologize, 1.5 pills, what was I thinking? That's the way my brain works at times.

In my case 1.5 is 1-100/50 Sinamet and 1/2-100/50 Sinament.
I was taking 200/50 and my doc reduced it to half which is not enough, so that's where my 1.5 pills came in.

When I stated my Mucuna, I took 2.5 ml with water once a day, in the morning. Worked great in the morning, but I found that during the day I needed some more to come back on after getting of. Off and On means that the pills are effective at that time or they are not.

Anyway to make a long story short, I started to take 2.5 ml with every pill I took. Good thing I kept the knowledgeable people on this site aware of what I was doing, because shortly I started to receive emails telling me that I was taking way to much and that I should start slowly and find a recipe that works for me. I took their advice and reduce my Mucuna to one pinch (don't ask me a measurement on that LOL) but that wasn't enough. I tried 2 pinches and that wasn't enough. Wen I tried 3 pinches I found that within 15 to 30 minutes I'm on, sometimes sooner than that. So that's what I settled on and it seems to work great for me.

Hopefully I didn't mess you up again and if I did I'll keep my big mouth shut about it and let the others that can communicate properly handle it.

...Claude, it was a great follow-through; exactly what I needed to proceed. Found out that the Amazon link for M powder is still viable, so I'll order through them and start a regimen as soon as it arrives.

I refer to Amantadine as my "stupid pill," as I swear that being on it is one of the reasons they call it "dope." Hopefully the M will slowly allow the 3x/day dose to decline/decrease.

Thanks again for the clarity.

Great Thread

Hi,

After a couple hours of reading, I have a pretty good idea on MP. I have been resisting using any meds altogether. I was dx'd 4 years ago at 39 and have just taken 1200 mg of cq-10 along with multivitamins, fish oil, and curcumin. I try to exercise at least every other day, play soccer or run, and used to lift weights. Lately, the cramping in my stomach and limbs has become pretty bad and the trembling a bit worse in my left arm. Don't even like doing sit ups as a result. The docs want to me to take anti-anxiety, anti-depressants, or l-dopa. I mentioned MP to my neurologist and she bit my head off as it being quack science. Said the stuff was unregulated and there was no way of knowing whether it had been grown next to a nuclear waste dump! Nice!

So i am at the point where I need to probably start taking something, but don't like any of the suggestions (l-dopa, etc.), and was hoping mp might be a viable alternative. So here is my question(s):

Has anyone else suffered the cramping, particularly abdominal?

Who has taken mp as their first PD drug and how effective has it been? At what mg/dose was it effective?

Has anyone looked into the quality of the mp being bought over the internet?

I am really nervous about starting this whole drug path. Scared l-dopa might actually hasten progression of the disease. Wanted to delay my 4-6 years of "good" time with the drugs, was hoping to make it to 50 and still playing soccer :)

Anyway, thanks for all your valuable posts! It is really nice to have sites like these. As a YOPD case, I sometimes feel like I am on an island, with all my active early 40ish friends running circles around me.

Thanks,

Mike

dopabean

I hadn't remembered it until now, but there is a standardized product called "Dopabean" by Solaray that might be worth looking at.
