I need some feedback on this subject

I called AARP, and inquired about their Part D plan, and I use brand name Sinamet because the generic doesnt work for me..If I buy regular Sinamet 25/100, 90 tablets out of pocket it costs me roughly $80..With the plan I would pay a $62 co-pay, and the plan costs $26..So thats $88..

I know if I were to get an Rx for 120 tablets it would still be a $62 co-pay..but theres only a $25 difference between brand name and generic, and if I went with the generic I would only pay a $6-8 co-pay

I am allowed $2400 worth of meds per calendar year under the plan, ond over $3800 I would get into the catastrophic plan

Part D stinks...to use a non-censored word...

I have AARP for both Part D and Medicare Supplemental. The latter is wonderful and I feel worth the premium...I have yet to pay a single penny to a physician or hospital since April 1, 2000.

I have been in the Part D "donut hole" since April. AARPs RX plan DOES pay for generics during the "hole" period, of which I take several; e.g. other PD meds such as Amantadine. The only bad part is that with generics I will never reach the Catastrophic part.

You know that it isn't AARP that is allowing only $2,400 per year...right? It is Medicare that sets the limits...right?

There is not employer on Planet Earth who would even consider putting a plan such as Part D in front of their employees...they would be laughed at heartily. So, how come elderly and disabled get to "endure" such are horrendous plan at Part D.

Thanks Carolyn..So we are in the same boat..I didnt know that it was Medicare that sets the limits..One good thing about it for me is that I can get generic Nexium cheap..I'll have to get my Mirapex samples from my neuro however..Actually..I could get by without the Mirapex if I had to

Whats the deal on the Medicare Supplimental?..How much does it cost?

Steve, I didn't know there was generic Nexium. I get samples from my Internist. I got Mirapex .5 mg from a PWP friend who no longer takes it.

The only other RX I have that is not in generic form is Effexor...$295 a month...I have to see a Psychiatrist monthly to get samples of this medication.

Yes, our lovely federal government voted to provide this wonderful RX benefit for us. And my fav are the commercials, that will start up again soon, since the annual re-enrollment will begin in October, stating that some high percentage of seniors (forget disabled who take meds) are HAPPY with the plan.

Oh and I got my monthly summary report from AARP RX plan today. And I am not pointing fingers at AARP, since they only communicate the plan to us...I only have $2,716.91 to pay out "before you reach Catastrophic Coverage." This is how much of the $3,850 donut hole I haven't satisfied yet.

What a mess. I suppose it could be worse, I could have no RX coverage of any kind.

Open Enrollment...and ANNUAL event...don't miss it for 2008...regardless of the date in 2007 you may have enrolled...2008 is a NEW plan year for Medicare RX Part D.

In 2006 I had coverage, as most beneficiaries did, that paid for brand and generic during the donut-hole period. For 2007, ALL plans, except the really expensive ones, discontinued coverage of brands during the donut-hole...thanks a bunch for the teaser in 2006.

So Steve, now that you have been through the agony of choosing a plan for 2007, you get to go through the choices again for 2008. I will probably just stay with AARP, usually have a good plan for most issues that require insurance.

YIPPEE...THERE IS SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT BEING OVER 50 YEARS OF AGE!! AARP has a Medicare RX Plan.

Thanks Carolyn for all the info..When I was on the phone with AARP, they told me that there was a generic Nexium..I dont recall the name of it, nor did I write it down..I took it for granted that my Dr would know

Steve, I Googled and got "Esomeprazole" as the generic. When I run out of samples I will ask for this generic.
