I remember reading about the experiences of swelling of feet and lower extremities with amantadine. for those individuals who experienced this-- what was your physician's approach? leave it alone unless it interferes with activities of daily living? decrease the medication dosage? stop the medication? appreciate any input.
also if one stops amantadine, does one have to titrate down or may one stop 'cold turkey"? thanks, madelyn

I dealt with mild edema and swelling for almost 2 years while taking amantadine. Since the problem was minor and I was receiving benefits from it, my neurologist just kept a check on it. Once we decided it was no longer beneficial, I titrated down - the first week I went from 3 x's a day to 2 x's a day. The next week I went to 1 a day, and the third week I stopped completely. Hope this helps.

I stopped Amantadine 'cold turkey' without any problems, but I was only taking 100 mg per day. After I stopped Amantadine my feet began to swell - hugely - and they hurt.
As soon as I started taking Amantadine again, the swelling went away completely, and so did the pain. I give up guessing what does what and when, it is all topsy turvey. |
