I gave away my sewing machine in disgust and despair when my tremor seemed to make it impossible to sew. That was five years ago. I don't exactly miss sewing, I've sewn an awful lot in my time, but by I now have a basket full of mending that would take minutes to fix - if I only had a sewing machine. I now know that I can easily sew for years to come.
I wonder if there are sewing machines that are even more user friendly than the old, ordinary, basic Singer zigzag that I gave away. Any good ideas and suggestions will be much appreciated. birte |

I like my White sewing machine but it's heavy with lots of metal gears vs the newer ones with more plastic - bought it used 30 years ago - Oh i feel so old typing that! where did all those yrs go???
Do you have Sewing machine or Vacuum repair /used shops in your area? usually they have them out & set up so you can test drive them, so to speak. I also bought a sewing machine at a thrift store that I liked - but it had more plastic parts and eventually broke, but it was only 20.00 and lasted 10 yrs - it was a singer with 30 different stitches/designs Or around here many Sewing machine or material/craft type stores have the machines out for testing so you can find the one that is best for you.

Thank you Jo.......it did not occur to me to go out and test drive sewing machines. Of course that is the thing to do. I am so rooted to my computer that I never shop in shops, but this is one thing I should look at 'in person' before I order it.
And then again, though I know you are right, it is so much easier to just have it come to the door....there are automatic threaders now, and vertical bobbins, all sound like improvements. I wonder if they are. |

I just bought a small mending sewing machine by Singer. My old one is too heavy and I will not be doing heavy, fancy sewing again. I found this one at a consignment shop and it had never been used. The $30.00 price tag looked too good to pass up...plus, I do have some things laid aside to mend...now to find the time to do it.
Good luck with finding what you can use happily. Adelle |
