Default HI! I'm usually on the PN part of Neurotalk......

but I"m needing some info.....
My dr. recently started me on Mirapex .25mg one pill at night. I also take Lyrica 4-5 times a day. I have Neuropathy and Myopathy. I have severe aching in my legs and sometimes my arms. So my dr. thought the extra medication might help. The thing is....Mirapex makes me SO sleepy! Has anyone else had that problem and did it get better over time?? I'm afraid to drive to work in the morning because I'm so groggy....and I take it several hrs before I go to bed.
Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Default Roxie...

DO you find Lyrica (Pregabalin) to be an effective pain medication? IT is simply "second generation Neurontin". AS such, these drugs are modeled after GABA, and are very closely related to simple amino acids, in the case of Lyrica , it is leucine with "one more carbon atom" in it. For years now, the use of neurontin has been questioned as an effective drug and this is just a "me too" second generation drug to Neurontin, to keep the patent and the money flowing.
Mirapex is well known to be a "zombiefying" drug in a lot of people. The only thing that I can suggest is to take very small doses over a period of several weeks until your body gets used to it, then you might have better luck with it.cs

HI Ol'cs,
I've been using Lyrica 75mg for 5 months now. Because of other health problems I haven't been able to take other pain meds. Lyrica works for me most days.....tho I have been having to take more and more to get the same results and now I'm having PN flare ups and this feeling of not wanting clothes touch my skin. It's all really getting me down.
The Mirapex does seem to help with my leg pain but it makes me feel woosy.....so not sure I can take that much longer.

Roxie,

Have you used the Search feature and looked at the posts about Mirapex? There are a lot. Too many for me post all the links. If you need any help searching, let me know. I can pm you the links.

Hi Roxie,

I was put on Mirapex initially, and it made me so sleepy. I found myself checking for light leaks instead of typing at my computer! I would nod off into a deep sleep as I was just "closing my eyes for a minute", and the next thing I heard was beeeeeep, beep, beep, beeeeep, from my keyboard.

John

Curious, Yes I just looked at some of the links for Mirapex. Thank you!

John, I found myself nodding off like you described! It's SO scary to be awake one second and sound asleep the next! That's why I think I'm not going to stay on it. I don't have RLS, just achy legs. I wish I could find a pain med that actually works for me that I doesn't bother other conditions I have!
