Yesterday I started on neupro (rotigione patch) for our problem - akathesia. It's the lowest dose patch - I don't know how long I will stay on this dose.

But anyway - fingers crossed that it will help with the problem!! I'll keep you posted.

You know our symptoms sure sounded like a match, but when I read about Akathesia it didn't ring so true. How about you? Regardless, I hope the patch helps and will be listening up for your response. Good luck!

Maybe we should confer/compare on other things - symptom, drugs, injuries, therapies, dx time, etc to see if we can pinpoint something?

At the PDF forum the speaker described my (our) symptoms - and said it was akathesia. I looked it up too - but that doctor and mine described it as -- inability to sit still, must move, get stiff sitting for very long, restless, fidgety...

I looked it up too, and if you pair it with parkinson's you get:

• inability to sit still
• unable to feel comfortable in any position
• Questionable : Non specific inner tention and fidgety movements.
• Mild Akathisia: Symptoms mainly subjective in nature in the absence of restless movements. A reasonable creteria for subjective akathisia is as experience of restlessness relieved to at least some degree by antiparkinson medication.
• Moderate Akathisia: Subjective restlessness .and characteristic and restless movements such as rocking from foot to foot when standing.
• Marked Akathisia : Compulsive desire to walk or pace. However the patient is able to remain seated for at least 5 minutes.
• Severe Akathisia : Patient reports a strong compulsion to pace up and down most of the time

So i'm ignoring the posts about drug-induced akathesia -- does this make more sense to you?

Thanks, JeanB. Yes, I can relate to what you said - much more so than the 'books.'
Generally, I experience an overall non-specific discomfort that has me constantly trying to shift about to find relief. This makes relaxing, reading, watching a movie, etc. challenging if not impossible. It was this way in the early pd years, pre-meds, so I know it is not drug-related. I suspect old, underlying injuries - exacerbated by the consstant muscular tension of pd, are to blame. Have you ever tried any of the anticholinergicis? I've not.
How is the patch working for you?
