Default NIH Funding Vote --Take Action and phone your representative

(from Parkinson's action network) NIH Funding Vote to Override Presidential Veto! Vote Thursday - Ask your Representative to Override Veto! Take Action!

Only Three Additional Votes Needed!

Yesterday, November 13, 2007, President Bush vetoed the fiscal 2008 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill as the total spending included in the bill was $9.8 billion above his request. Although expected, PAN is disappointed by the President’s veto.

The final Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill includes $30 billion for NIH next year, which is a net increase of $899 million (3.1 percent). NIH is the single largest source of Parkinson’s disease research funding in the world, and the Parkinson’s community looks to NIH as our best hope for finding better treatments for Parkinson’s and other diseases. We must preserve this valuable research funding!

A House vote to override President Bush’s veto is expected tomorrow. The House approved the bill last week, 274 to 141, just three votes shy of the two-thirds majority necessary to override a veto. Only three more votes are needed to protect NIH Funding!

Please call your Representatives TODAY and urge them to support NIH funding and the Labor-H Appropriations bill by overriding the President’s veto.
