The XVII WFN World Congress on Parkinson's Disease and Related Disorders will take place from December 9th up to 13th, 2007, at the RAI Congress Center in Amsterdam.

Parkinson's disease and the various related movement disorders are common and extremely debilitating conditions. The World Congress aims to provide a unique gateway to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from these disorders. Guided by the main theme 'Education by Integration', the World Congress will bring together basic neuroscientists, clinical neurologists and allied health care professionals and stimulate the exchange of the latest basic and clinical science.

Program
The program contains a mixture of basic neuroscience and comprehensive, pragmatic overviews for practicing clinicians. Examples of the many exciting new scientific developments include a critical discussion of the current status of stem cell transplantation and gene therapy; new insights into the causes of Parkinson's disease; the latest information on advanced brain surgery for movement disorders; and updates on innovative brain imaging techniques. New clinically oriented elements include symposia dealing with allied health care topics (e.g. physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy). Forum discussions will provide excellent opportunities for interaction and exchange of ideas. Over the course of four congress days, sessions are uniquely organised in a vertical thematic way, providing the possibility for individual tailor-made programs for all participants.

The faculty consists of internationally respected experts in their fields, with a strong contribution by young, promising scientists from all over the world. The conference is chaired by Professor E. Ch. Wolters, VU University medical centre in Amsterdam. The conference is expected to attract about 3000 delegates, from a broad range of medical disciplines (including neurology, psychiatry and allied health care) as well as basic neuroscientists.

New textbook
As you will join this congress you will be provided with the poster abstracts and the full proceedings (with full articles written by the invited key speakers), which have been published in a special supplement of the journal of Parkinsonism & Related Disorders. We will also provide you with a complementary copy of a new textbook: 'Parkinsonism and Related Disorders', including a CD-ROM (editors: E. Ch. Wolters, H. W. Berendse and T. van Laar). This book contains state-of-the-art reviews of all relevant aspects of movement disorders, and is the result of a unique collaboration by all recognized Dutch experts in movement disorders. All delegates will receive a free complementary copy of this book upon registration.

Patient Foundation
After the official closing ceremony on December 13th, a special symposium will follow to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Dutch Parkinson Patient Foundation. This symposium will discuss the latest forms of drug treatment for Parkinson's disease, and has an attractive social program. Over 1500 patients and their family members, as well as medical professionals, have already registered for this symposium. Your are cordially invited to attend this special symposium as well.
