This regular email newsletter provides you with information on Parkinson's disease (PD) clinical trials that are actively looking for participants, as well as news on Parkinson's research and treatments. PDtrials is a collaborative initiative of Parkinson's organizations and is dedicated to increasing awareness and education about Parkinson's clinical trials. New Clinical Trials Exercise & Gait Related Disability in PD - This is a study to investigate the benefits of exercise for fitness, walking, and balance in people with PD. It will require a 12-week commitment from 100 participants in the Baltimore, MD area. Learn more Occupational Therapy for Cognitive and Perceptual Deficits in People with PD - A research team at the University of New England is evaluating the effectiveness of a brief Occupational Therapy program for persons with PD who have thinking and visual perceptual problems. Ten participants in the Maine area will be enrolled. Learn more View All Clinical Trials PBS 'Second Opinion' Episode Discusses Clinical Trials for PD PBS' Second Opinion focuses on health literacy in a way that is relevant and accessible to both viewers and to physicians. On an episode earlier this season the topic of discussion was clinical trials and Parkinson's. Read more Ceregene Presents Long-term Follow-up From Phase 1 Trial of CERE-120 in PD Ceregene, Inc. has presented long-term follow-up data from a Phase 1 clinical trial of CERE-120 in 12 patients with advanced PD. CERE-120 uses gene therapy to deliver the neural growth factor neurturin to the major area of neurodegeneration that occurs in the brains of PD patients. Long-term follow up assessments at 18 and 24 months post treatment, suggest a sustained reduction in Parkinson's symptoms. Read more Relatives of Patients with PD Face Increased Risk of Depression/Anxiety Disorders Immediate relatives (brother, sister, mother, father, son or daughter) of people who have PD are at increased risk for developing depression and anxiety disorders, according to a new study by Mayo Clinic. The risk is particularly increased in families of patients who develop the disease before age 75.
