I have been having a problem the last couple of months. My ankles don't want to hold me up when I stand. Usually after sitting for while, or when I get out of bed in the morning.
Anyone share this issue?

Hi Carolyn! I don't have Parkinsons...but I do have the ankle issue. After I sit for a few minutes and when I climb out of bed they are stiff and sore. I feel like my ankles are 80 and I am only 42! It takes me a few minutes to loosen then up enough to walk on them...and sometimes it takes days for the to loosen...I only hope there is no fire in my place...it would take me forever to hobble outta here....that is the perfect word for it...hobbling around! I think the weather may have something to do with it....maybe some arthritis...not sure......Merry Christmas,Carolyn!!

Carolyn,
My feet and knees are like that in the morning. My little sister called me the "Tin Man" one morning as I walked into the kitchen to get my daily meds lined up for the day. Usually after the second dose of Sinemet, my legs feel better and I can walk easier. John |

I do sympathize with you on this as I have also experienced it, tho possibly not the same way as you might re the PD have you ever tried Epsom Salts foot baths? Warm water with about a cup of epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) dissolved in foot sized tub, soak for around 15-20 minutes. I do it before bed when my ankles are hurting and tend to wake with less pain in the morning hope that may help a bit Cheri ps editing in...I realized my post mentioned pain only, but I do understand re the "support" from the ankles not being secure to help with standing up or getting up am..that's what causes the pain for me. I've recently been dx with arthritis in one foot at an old injury site. dont know if the other pain re ankles is related to that

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
I have arthritis in my knees and hips...a genetic gift from my mother...so I know what that is like, especially if I stand on my feet all day. My hips are in horrible pain the next morning...horrible. This is not like arthritis. It is as if my ankles just don't want to hold me up. I have almost fallen a few time from my ankles surprising me and giving out from under me.
