Hi
as this forum often gets many posts with useful info from research papers, news articles and a whole lot more, I do need to draw your attention to a thread running on CFF regarding the correct way to post this material without infringing copyright. it is real important to abide by this as we get complaints from authors, publications etc when copyrighted material is incorrectly sourced etc. and especially when entire articles are copied over here is Doc's thread on CFF http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread37384.html basic requirements mean you should: 1/ always cite the source and author 2/ give a URL link to the source wherever possible 3/ dont copy and paste the WHOLE piece, but instead give only the abstract, or snips from the piece and then the link so that others can follow it to read the whole much appreciation for everyone's co-operation on this Cheri

Chemar,
I have always followed your copyright recomendations - and would respect the authors' rights by not copying the entire piece! But recently, I found that a non-profit org had copied & used an entire page from pdplan4life.com - even though Sheryl and I had copyrighted our work. When I questioned this action, I was informed that it was "fair use" and non-profits could take anything they wanted for their use, including the use of entire web pages or documents, whether it were copyrighted or not. That still doesn't seem quite right to me, but that attitude is out there. I much prefer to follow your guidelines, and Doc's.

just bumping this up FYI as we are seeing a number of members not attributing, citing and source linking, which is often a violation of copyright
we used to have a very relaxed approach to this till we started getting complaints from authors/publications etc please could all be sure to cite, source and link correctly so that we adhere to correct protocol on this Quote:

What is the copyright status of abstracts from Medline? It is a government site but the abstracts are part of the original paper.

i found this: http://www.cos.com/policy/medlegal.shtml

I posted an article from a website this afternoon and am assuming it prompted this thread, sorry. What did I leave off that I should have included, so that I don't do it again. Was it the actual url of the news site I got it from? Thanks.

Chemar Curious...The Vytorin Scandal is real. What I have posted on the big Pharma site giving the source may not be good enough. I have a copy of the news letter, and i can email that too you. There are better sources such as newsweek and others. Await your instructions on this one.

Hi Howard, I just replied to your email too and will quote some of my reply here for general information
Quote:
unless we know for sure that there is a definite copyright infringement, we take a "wait see if anyone complains" approach, and just PM members who have copied known copyrighted work without attribution/source link etc We likely wouldnt even have drawn attention to this had we not had some complaints from authors/publications etc. When they complain we have to immediately comply thanks for checking.....
