Question What do you taken when you have a cold?

Hi everyone,

What does your doctor recommend for colds and the flu?

I've come down with a nasty bronchial thing with a really nasty sore throat, but I'm afraid to take anything that'll send me off into hallucinations, or worse. This started about a week ago after my nephews visited. The wonderful walking germ factory effect!

Thanks.

John

Default Hi

I had same problem in Dec. i am on Azilect and sinemet. after a few days of back and forth with pharm and general...called my specialist and took over counter. i found most general doctors and pharms....just go by warning and really are not tooo familar with meds we take. best advice place call to your neuro to be sure and can also explain risks if any..sooner the better trust me LOL.

be well

Default Benedryl

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...highlight=rd42

I'm on Azilcet. At full dosage the Benedryl helped dried up my nose, woke me up then put me to sleep. I would recommend starting with half the dose, one capsule, to see how it goes if you're taking Azilect. I talked with the maker of Azilect and they said to stay away from DM and decongestants.

You can call the makers of Azilect at 877-429-4532 for more info.

I am on Azilect now with my Stalevo and Neupro, so I can't take pseudoephedrine anymore. The last cold I had, I got Zicam liquid nasal gel- Intense Sinus Relief and it worked well.

Thank you everyone for your help. I'm not on Azilect. I'm only on Sinemet and Amantadine. I'll talk to my drs on Monday. Right now I'm taking Advil and Halls cough drops (non-menthol), and this has helped the achy muscles and wicked sore throat.

vit c to boost your imune system. gargling with salt water helps. throat sprays like choraseptic help numb the throat. lots of fluids.

...just don't cough on me.

Been doing that too and it's helped somewhat This sore throat is probably the worst I've even had in my life. On a scale of 1 to 10 it's like 15 or 20! I have a pretty high tolerance for pain and this is beyond my tolerance. I've been dealing with it the best I can until I can contact my doctors because I don't want to venture over the the ER. They don't know diddly squat, and don't listen to the patient. When i was in last, they tried to give me Compazine for nausea, which we all know is a no-no for us PWPs.

Big hug to you too, Curious. Just don't catch my cold-bug.

Default Could be Strep Throat

John...if the pain is so intolerable, "strep" comes to my mind. I had a strep throat many years ago in college and I would describe it as you have described yours...the worst sore throat I had ever had...and I, too, had a good pain threshold. You need to have a "chat" with your doctor(s)...there has to be something that you can take that will give you some relief...AND cure the "strep" is that's what it is.

Thanks... I do have a call into PCPs office about this. The sore throat has subsided, but the congestion is still there. My brain is shrinking too so I think it's the flu. The rest of the house has is so why not join the fun.

I've had the strep before and I am well aware of the sore throat. This one felt worse! On the scale of 1 to 10 with they smiley and frownie faces, the face would have horns and smoke and flames coming out of the ears.

I've been sleeping as much as I can, drinking lots of fluids and eating lightly. There's not much I can do until this breaks. I tried going to work yesterday, but it was quite miserable. I sweated profusely all day and drove home with my heat off and the window wide open.
