Default Has anyone been through this?

Ive been prepping today for a colonoscopy tomorrow..I cant eat anything all day..I cannot believe how weak I am, and it has to be because of the fasting..I already took a one hour nap around noon time, and I am still very fatigued..This is agonizing!..Has anyone been through this?

Hi Steve,

Did you buy your jello? lol The day before is the worst part. I've done it 3 times and now have to do it every 2 years because i am,to quote my gastroenterologist a, "little polyp producer." Some were precancerous - this is one they can prevent but you have to get your colonoscopies and get the polyps cut out.

Hang in there - keep drinking. It's no fun.

Steve,

I have had this procedure done. And yes, it is awful, and can leave you very weakened. Don't be in too much of a hurry to submit to frequent colonoscopies. Everyone I ever met who had one, found that they have polyps. Apparently these are related to a calcium deficiency, and if you treat that, you greatly reduce the incidence of polyps.

Gastroenterologists love to do scopes. And given that they are dealing with the garbage disposal unit of the body, and the wear and tear we subject it to, they're almost bound to find something negative. They also get quite excited and feel well justified about performing such an invasive procedure if they find even one 2mm polyp.

It's good to have this done once in a lifetime, but I'd weigh up the pros and cons about having it done regularly given the other issues you have to contend with.

I bet if you had a look at anyone's bowel on camera you'd find something that shouldn't be there.

Good for you! I had my first Colonoscopy last Oct.

Actually, they told me to avoid red popsicles and red Jello.

Glad you were able to catch those nasty polyps before they got really ugly.

Muireann,

Previously, I have had them 3 and then 5 years apart [second time the polyps were not pre-cancerous.] This time he said they were a little bigger than he likes to see them and again precancerous, so he reduced it to 2 years. Knowing that I produce polyps, I'm not going to make that call myself. I've heard people accuse doctors of removing things that were not necessary, but I wouldn't recommend to anyone to ignore them who is over the age of 50. Russian Roulette.
