Default Paula, you might find the humor in this

The music has to have a good beat and i'm not ready for Adam Ant upon waking up, whose wife changed her name to Eve, for those of you who, like me, missed the 80s to have babies, may not know. Children's music, children's Tv, in the car, at home. so I'm just learning who was singing what. I do like classic alternative.

Bob can you reprint your URL, if there is one to your book?

ok, If I am missing a cultural behavior, please inform me. i love political humor, the sources are endless and it relaxes me to laugh at it I always felt kinda guilty watching sat. night live, Stewart and Colbert. But now i need the laughs and don't think they are going to "corrupt me" or change my thinking much. so i can't resist sharing this news item.

Today, our national relations with Venezuela might be "enhanced" due to the "alledged" flirtations between Courtney Love and Hugo Chavez. I can see George and Laura shaking their heads....wishing they had the appeal that Courtney does with Hugo.

Standing side by side with Courtney and Hugo, the Bushes clearly look more satanic and Courtney obviously doesn't smell like sulphur.

Thanks for the help Courtney, is there a Mrs. Chavez? I can't say, " men - they are all alike"!

Because they aren't. Hugo has something unique going ...... I guess all Hugo needs is a little Love.

America...it's more than just a country to hate.

GDNF - Medical Illusion or Reality or
Is it just a state of mind?
GDNF - Is it real or is it Maybelline

Some mice were
Chewing on an allegory of the plasticity of time
While playing with elusive dream-strands within the mind
About chemicals of passion, sloth, curiosity and drive
Mixed, pondered, listed, discussed, survived

And how brains whose complexity - patterned from Divine
Conceal strength & purpose, a true measurement denied
This annoying patients and baffling scientists alike
So earnest doctors must tip toe a labyrinth of land mines

Their consideration waning, contemplating this muse
When they then one by one, after howling it to the moon
Begin to understand why they had disappeared the room
For they all had been quietly humming this little tune

Weevils supped at a table with grasshoppers and swine
In chambers owned by flies elegantly dressed “to the nines”
A menu of bacon maggots was toasted to, with locust wine
And they all said these placebos are the best on which to dine.

Here is the edited, titled, easier to follow - poem that I wrote;
(I have had PD 22 yrs, & was a participent in the GDNF phase II trial)

Who was the Villain at the GDNF Table?
Some mice and friends were: -

Chewing on an allegory of the plasticity of time
While playing with elusive dream-strands within the mind
About chemicals of passion, sloth, curiosity and drive
Mixed, pondered, listed, discussed, survived,

And how brains whose complexity - patterned from Divine
Conceal strength & purpose, a true measurement denied
(This annoyed patients and baffled scientists alike.
And earnest doctors tip toe a labyrinth of land mines.)

Fearsome consideration waning, contemplating – what was truth
Inexplicably they, one by one, (after howling to the moon)
Began to understand why - they had disappeared the room
Here is the magic-story-riddle they’d been humming out of tune:

“Weevils supped at a table with grasshoppers and swine
In chambers owned by flies elegantly dressed “to the nines”
A menu of bacon maggots was toasted to, with locust wine
And they all said “these placebos are the best on which to dine.”

* * *

We were vulnerable, hopeful; willed - the finish line into sight.
Set before us, was a choice, and for it, we risked lives.
But of all the fears we fought, how can it be, one of the lies
A Placebo’s unknown factor – held royal flush, & lethal smile.

Symptom relief victory we lived, & testified
The – no longer vanquished monster now with mouth open wide
Is again eating up our futures & decimating lives
Told, our sacrifice – a failure? What rot. We are NOT mice!

Default Amgen, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways

I used to know things about Parkinson's that I no longer know. I used to know that it is a condition that is inconvenient, but not fatal and not painful. I used to know that Big Pharma consists of thousands of dedicated scientists, wearing white lab coats and devoted to improving the lot of the human race; consecrating their lives to reducing human suffering.
And I personally know some scientists who are, precisely, doing that.
But there came a day when a little old lady directed me to this thread, and all hell broke loose in my PD gang.
The only thing I promised is that I will not forget the story of the volunteers for the Amgen clinical trials.
But sometimes, like a drug addict, I go searching for things about Amgen. This may be irrelevant and so I have no objections if the moderators delete it, and I did not find any specific references to Parkinson's or the volunteers in the following links - what I found is Amgen employees talking to each other, down through the years; and it's not quite as dedicated to rescuing mankind as I used to think.

Default happy campers? not....

Bob,

The links wouldn't open for me earlier.

We would post there at Cafe Pharma occasionally during the gdnf debacle. As a whole they are hostile and complain miserably about their employer...or is it just that youth is hostile in general on the internet? They softened some when we identified ourselves as patients. That's where I learned the acronym GDNF - "good drug no future".

In one of the links a poster made this disturbing comment:
"All the ethical people are gone, they either quit or were fired."
