NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Two billion dollars in national Medicare cuts could affect sick and dying people across Tennessee.

Medicare is set to cut $2.3 billion nationally in hospice payments on Oct. 1.

The money is meant for many hospice providers to care for the elderly and terminally ill.

Providers in Tennessee are speaking out, saying the cuts will make it a lot harder to give people the care they need at the most critical time in their lives.

"It baffles the mind to think that the one part of the Medicare system that works the best is being challenged and cut," said Jan Jones, CEO of Alive Hospice.
