Default Weekly Check In Dec 1-7 (?)

Well no sign of Steve and its Sunday night so I will pick up the ball. We are rapidly approaching the "Holiday Season" and each year I am less of a Christmas enthusiast! With the economy in questionable shape the question of the week is: What will you be doing differently this year? A few years ago I started a Christmas tradition of my own where I give very little in the way of gifts, and instead make a donation to the food bank. Then I write a poem of some sort...a rhyme actually, and everyone gets a copy. Nobody would call my poetry ..well poetic. I did find a very nifty little teapot that is designed for loose tea last time I was over on the Island (that's where Max is). I got one for each of my kids. I boycott the malls and shopping zones from Dec 1st until at least the 2nd week in January. I'l write a Christmas lettter too, but it never gets mailed till January. Lineups at the post office kinda put me off too.

I have no idea where Steve is....he's still with Laura I think. I have his cell #
If he doesn't checkin this week I'll track him down.

Oh I have a bit of good news....after living with my daughter for almost 1 year TODAY I got a doorknob installed between my place and hers. (the door was already there... amazing what can make your day.) Next job will be to install the exhaust fan over my stove! Probably next year

Anybody had any snow yet??? Not here. Rosie-posie

Thank you Charlie. This is not good but at least we know. Steve is always so good about getting to this thread, I should have suspected things were out of step.

Steve: when you do get to read this, Know that we will all be praying for you (or whatever we do as an alternative) that things will go well for you and Laura. Love to both of you.

Thanks Rosebud for picking up the ball..We havent had internet access where we are staying, unless we used Lorrie Gossman's computer..Laura has been getting worse, and Saturday night, she appeared to be having a seizure, so I called 911..She was transfered to East Liverpool Ohio Hospital..During transfer she was given Benedryl, and it snapped her out of it..Strange!!..Then from there she was transfered to the Cleveland Clinic inpatient for 2 days..I will let Laura write about that..Anyway, she got discharged today, and we are in a hotel in Wheeling Ohio, with the intention of going to Rhode Island, but Laura is not taking well to the traveling, so we might turn back tomorrow, because we would have to drive back out here again before the 17th for three more appointments in Cleveland..So, maybe we would be better off staying here..I'll keep you folks posted

I am definitely cutting back on what I spend on Christmas this year and I plan to do most of my shopping online. Rosebud- it sounds like you have a nice tradition.

We had a little bit of snow in Pennsylvania, about 2 weeks ago. It barely coated the grass, but my friend's 2 boys, ages 6 & 8, were able to make a small snowman. I hope we get some snow at Christmas when my 3 year old granddaughter will be visiting from Florida. She has already called me and says she hopes to see snow when she comes. Last week my daughter took her to the science museum in Fort Lauderdale where they had an exhibit with artificial snow for the Florida kids to play in. My daughter was laughing when she told me about how she stood in line with her daughter to give her a few minutes in some snow that was dirty from so many kids. Although I live in se Pennsylvania where we don't get much snow, my kids grew up in upstate NY where we had a lot of snow.

My prayers are with Laura.

Default Benedryl

is an antihistamine ....its real generic name is diphenhydramine hydrochloride or something close to it. I used it a lot in my working days, and it was a good sub for sinemet. I discovered it accidently because I had allergies. It's also used as a sleep aide. If you read the label on some OTC drugs for sleep, you'll see the same old stuff in the contents. I buy the generic house brand from one of the drug stores and get 60 50 mg caplets for approx $8. Pretty cheap meds. But my body adapts quickly and after a few days the affect is lost. I remember Vicki on the old forum saying her brother was a paramedic and thats what they gave Parkies in emergency situations. Interesting. My Neuro doesn't seem to know much about it. Glad to hear from you Steve. Laura needed an angel in her life.....who would have guessed it would be you...I'm sure you didn't. Take care and post when you can.

Default harley

i have talked with harley several times this morning. the ER neuro told her benadryl doesn't do anything for Parkinson's, but, as rosebud points out, it certainly DOES and was one of the early treatments for PD. i am worried. is there anyone in the Cleveland area who knows of a clean and DECENT place where they could stay? anyone who can take them in? anyone who's been to the Cleveland Clinic who knows of any of the above? they are waiting for her appt on the 17th.

gotta go to the doc myself right now.

Default just a suggestion

I suggest that anyone who needs accommodations, or even recommendations of where to stay, where to eat, etc., call one of the churches in the area. I would think there is someone that would be willing to help for a little while.

Another avenue is to contact the local Young Life office. This is a non-denominational Christian Youth Organization with a lot of volunteers. You can do a search under www.YoungLife org.

Sure hope this helps!
