My wife had back surgery yesterday and seems to be improving very rapidly. The sciatic pain that has plagued her for more than 9 months seems to be almost gone. She will be discharged tomorrow from the hospital.
Her MDS (who is on staff at the same hospital) came to see her yesterday and felt that part of her gait and balance issues also related to the sciatica. The other problem that she had developed was a torn meniscus (when it rains it pours). This may be affecting gait and balance as well. Her MDS (yes he is a specialist) feels strongly that the gait and balance issues are not solely related to the PD. We'll see where things go from here. I am very grateful for all of the thoughtful responses from people and will keep you posted. Howard |

Hello Howard~~ I'm new here as well...seeking out questions. There doesn't seem to be a uniform way this illness affects one. That, I find frustrating...is my husband at stage 3 already and skipped 1 and 2?...
What I have 'seen' is the dramatic improvement in both gait and balance from using a machine called a GIGERMD...I'm trying to locate one in our area in Southern Oregon... as the results of this machine are amazing..even after just one session! I wish you and your wife well..especially now with this upcoming surgery. My husband also suffers from extreme back pain..has had two surgeries already with an Aspen implant...we're seeing his back surgeon on Friday and his neurologist tomorrow..but sadly, I'm not hoping for too much from either of them. I'm seeking like you...better answers then what's coming from Western medicine..that being more drugs...more drugs... Anyone else out there that also has back pain with PD??...my husband also has developed, very quickly, scoliosis..which would certainly cause discomfort! Good to write to you all...peace....Arjuna Quote:
