Smile Zandopa: natural form of L-dopa to treat Parkinsons

Hello,

I'm writing this post on behalf of my father who has had Parkinsons for over a couple of years now. We were recently in India and found a natural L-dopa medicine called Zandopa. Zandopa is a powdered form of Mucuna Prureins, a natural herb that is used to help people with Parkisons. However, after increasing his dosage to almost 7 grams per day, he gets headaches and dizziness. We believe this is due to the hypglycemic properties of Mucana.
Has anyone experienced this? Is anyone currently taking Mucana Prureins that can share their experience? If so, would you know what the effect would be if a parkinson patient had to admitted to a hospital and they didn't allow Mucuna to be taken? Thanks so much.

Default New in town?

Excuse me for being flippant. It's just that that is probably the most discussed subject on this forum. Use the search function and you will find reams of good material. I think you will find all you want to know. But if not, ask away.

Re: the hospital, however, I fear that any of us would be lucky to escape the hospital unscathed.

Default That just happened to me!

Last week I put myself in a small rehab hospital in order to acccess the physical Therapy prescribed last Dec to stabilize my pelvis.... getting therapy from home was too arduous for frequent trips.

Anyway, they took my mucuna and everything else too - including vit c , omega oils, digestive enzymes, etc. my powdered mucuna was in a botttle with a GInger label so they refused too even dispense a dose to me. Fortunately I had a secret stash which lasted me til I escaped the next day....after learniing they had no manual therapy at all and the 'pool' for aquatic therapy turned out to be a jaccuzi - -which was broken.

The whole trip was a bust - except as the learning experience. Rules, rules -which THEY were continually breaking. getting everything wrong....scary.

So be forwarned annd either clarify the situation and get a med OK ahead of time OR get your necessaries in and concealed ((they searched my room) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default a suggestion

It might not be a bad idea to have your attorney briefed and on standby when going in.

Oh, Ibby, I am so sorry and I am so not surprised. Yeah, I want to find out exactly what the legality of the situation is. After all, they are our bodies, and we are the paying consumer, or should I say paying through the nose consumer.

At the very least, I will refuse to pay for this little jaunt - even tho it was my idea to go there. I believe the neuro who referred me did not know enough about my PT needs and their actual ability -or lack thereof - to help me. Seems to me the rehab place misrepresents itself. But hey, after years of what we're dealing with, we oughtta be used to that by now!
