Rick posted about this a year or so ago, and now, follow-up and presentation to the medical community, another WOW in my book! Here's the link:

Crazy i second your wow and raise you one

Rick, is this the one, that our european friend was getting involved with? how is it that the treatment is limited to these locations? i have my suspicions but would like to hear others' opinion. Why don't they just print, "it's only available for the rich or the insured in CA, too bad." But then paranoia and emotions leak from most of my thoughts these days.

I hear you, but have this to say: this is SO new, and obviously off-label, and IMHO, will be poo-pooed by many who have much to lose if the standard "gold standard" ldopa and agonist treatments were to, rather suddenly, be threatened by something that may turn out to have a huge benefit to those suffering from Alz. and their families...that I can't blame the doc for limiting it for now. After all, he has apparently been working on this, alone and probably without much support among his peers, for years.

Again, IMHO, if this turns out to have the beneficial impact it sounded like it could, there will be MANY docs lining up to learn how to do this. And I would not put it past folks to pony up $$$ to help pay for those to get this treatment, even in this economy. Not to mention our government approving it for treatment, in which case Medicare/Medicaid would cover it...talk about reducing the cost of those programs very quickly, at a time when our budget will bust the backs of our great-grandchildren. I am very anxious to hear the details about the follow-up research on this, and whether it could be applied to PD as well.

Default yes quite hopeful

thanks, i need for there to be positve to balance my negative post upcoming. i keep losing it, but it's time for voice recog. i can't type well anymore.

there is one treatment, already approved on the market, that works very well with pd and starts with an e. not sure if it is primarily for alzheimer's.

Rick may know whether this is the one our european activist was actually thinking of patenting.

hopeful indeed! something like that is our only hope.

Anti-TNF-alpha Therapy Produces Rapid Improvement in Alzheimer's Disease
Caroline Cassels
January 15, 2008 — Perispinal etanercept (Enbrel, Amgen), an anticytokine therapy that targets excess tumor necrosis factor– alpha (TNF-α) in the brain, has been shown to produce almost immediate cognitive and behavioral improvement in a patient with moderate Alzheimer's disease (AD).
