New Parkinson’s Disease Resource List Includes 650 Resources Worldwide New York, NY - Jun 02 2009 The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) is pleased to announce the availability of the Parkinson’s Disease Resource List, a free publication designed for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), their families and caregivers and health professionals. This 100-page comprehensive guide includes over 650 community resources located throughout the US and around the world, which address many of the needs that may arise for a person living with Parkinson's. The guide lists national and local Parkinson’s groups and movement disorder centers and resources addressing clinical trials, medical equipment, financial, legal and insurance assistance, caregivers and more. It also includes personal stories from people living with PD and sections geared specifically toward the newly diagnosed and those living with early-onset PD and advanced Parkinson’s. In addition, the Resource List is also featured on PDF's website, where community members are invited to add the local resources they consider valuable. The thirteen members of PPAC spoke of the urgent need for a centralized resource that would compile information from all sources – websites, books, organizations, audiovisual materials, webcasts, and more. Such a resource would be used by people with Parkinson’s at any age and any stage of the disease and by their families, friends and care-partners. PPAC member and caregiver Rhona Johnson noted, “As people live with Parkinson’s, the questions they have vary tremendously – whether it’s wondering how to deal with the diagnosis, deciding when to tell an employer, considering joining a clinical trial, finding home healthcare and many more. Now the Parkinson’s Disease Resource List will help people find answers to all of these questions.” The Parkinson’s Disease Resource List is now available free, by calling (800) 457-6676, emailing info@pdf.org or ordering online at www.pdf.org. Healthcare professionals and support group leaders are also welcome to order multiple copies for their patients and members. The Parkinson's Disease Resource List has been made possible through an unrestricted educational grant from Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation.
