art from others

:)I would like to see more art from other members also. Art has become my best therapy for pd and other ailments I have. It is calming and relaxing and depending on your choice of art or crafts doesn't require much physical strength or expenditure. I do glass lampworking, jewelry making and colored pencil drawings. I think this has kept my hand coordination good and definitely has helped my depression. It makes you feel so good about yourself when you can admire and be proud of something you made. I have had to quit work, but with my art I feel I am still important. I know I should feel important without art but when you have worked your whole life, you become very achievement oriented unfortunately.
I love art and anything beautiful. Photography is also part of this. You find beautiful sights or objects, take the picture and recreate it in glass, pencil, paint, whatever. There are endless posibilities. This gets you outside and always inspired by the beauty around you hopefully.
It seems that since I have had pd and have had to quit work, art has taken on more importance in my life. I hope others find the same thing.

I've had this one in my photobucket for a while and can't remember much about it except it is telling quite a story, and I love the way the artist makes the dress look almost tangible.

Frank Cadogan Cowper

Our Lady of the Fruits of the Earth - 1917

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...-the-Earth.jpg

Sometimes referred to as 'the Last Pre-Raphaelite', Frank Cadogan Cowper was born in Wicken, Northamptonshire in 1877, son of Frank Cowper, an author who specialised in writing yachting novels. Grandson of the Rector of Wicken and raised in the faith of the Plymouth Brethren, young Frank had a strict religious upbringing, something which would have a profound, though unexpected influence upon his artistic career many years later.

Beauty is the mystery of life

In truth the Greeks named the world after ornament, for the diversity of the elements and the beauty of the stars. Their way of calling it is Kosmos, which means ornament. For nothing more beautiful than the world may be seen with the eyes.
- Isidore of Seville (560-636 A.D.)
Etymologies, XIII

‘Tis the melodious hue of beauty thrown
Athwart the darkness and the glare of pain
Which humanize and harmonize the strain.
- Percy Bysshe Shelley (1819)

When I think of art, I think of beauty. Beauty is the mystery of life. It is not in the eye, it is in the mind. In our minds, there is an awareness of perfection. We respond to beauty with emotion. Beauty speaks a message to us…. All artwork is about beauty; all positive work represents it and celebrates it. All negative art protests the lack of beauty in our lives…
…All your conditioning has been directed toward intellectual living. This is useless in artwork… Our emotional life is really dominant over our intellectual life, but we do not realize it.
- Agnes Martin (1989)
Beauty is the Mystery of Life

Give unto them beauty for ashes,
the oil of joy for mourning,
the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.
- Isaiah 61:3 (525 B.C.)

The creators of beauty are the true revolutionaries.

Focus on the dance, not the disease

I'm an artist too. This is one of my three creations, my youngest daughter. Hard to believe I once looked like her. She is an aspiring actress, having attended the Acting Conservatory at York University in Toronto for 4 years.

art of the day

my ex-husband showed me how to personalize my computer home page with an art of the day picture. it's at igoogle. the quality is pretty high and it gives me something to look forward to. barb

Bob Dawson 07-24-2010 03:23 PM

Hey, that is great ! Don't forget to remind us of that in another thread sometime. It is quite a little event every day to have your computer insist that you look at a piece of art you had not expected. It's a special moment in the day.
