Have you ever had to endure a week off line!!
My computer crashed last Monday night after downloaded something from the Internet. I had already been having problems for a long time, i.e. unable to open pdf files. Just touching a pdf file URL with my mouse would shut down the computer and I would have to reboot. My guru son in law found me a laptop for $379 and her I am back on line...wow, what a week. He has bought quit a few items for www.buy.com; an external harddrive, a notebook, etc. How many times I instinctively went to my desk... Other than this, I had a relatively quiet week. How was your week?

Now entering 4th week without a kitchen. The contract requires someone over 18 be here for all the work. Since my husband is not retired yet, that leaves me. Occasionally my house-helper would come over at the right time for me to go to yoga class, but she's leaving the area Tuesday to be near family. Sigh. I know I'll love it when it's done, and it desperately needed updating before we put it on the market in the spring, but the process is driving me to distraction, so I apologize to everyone I've said I'd write to. I think there are a couple of idle days this week, so maybe I can stay glued together to write.
The good part is I'm functioning quite well as designer, scheduler, and task manager....I suppose I'm regaining a little executive function out of sheer effort. Oh, and my computer's working fine, thank goodness. Thanks for starting this, Carolyn. Jaye |

Stitcher - glad to see you are back.
Later this morning I take my dad to the doctor who performed surgery on his back. I'm hoping for some answers about whether Dad's cancer has metastisized or not! If anyone should know, this doctor is the one. Other than that, it's the dog days of summer in the desert. When the morning low is 89 degrees, the days are miserable. I'm up at 0500 to ride my bike - still hot - but it's nice riding before the sun comes up because I don't have to slather myself with sunblock! But next week I go to Yale for a clinical trial - then to Boston - then Washington DC. It will be a nice break from the summer heat.

I would not want to go a week without a computer. I have a new/used laptop too that I got at the end of May. I love being able to take my computer with me. Now I am in the Pocono Mountains for a family vacation with my children, their spouses, and 2 grandchildren. I was dismayed to find the house we rented did not have internet acces, but fortunately we found a library with wi fi.
