Default I got you something for Christmas...

Let's exchange gifts! Internet accessible of course. Here's one for everyone who thinks they were around in the Sixties (check the birth date on your driver's license)

http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/

The late Bill Graham ran a couple of little venues called the Fillmores East and West. Every band that ever existed played there. BG was of the habit to tape and film every one of them. He would then archive them along with all the posters, playbills, tickets, etc.

Though he died in 1991, his estate eventually sold the collection - all 20,000,000 pieces! The company which bought it has digitized the music and put it online free for the listening. All the paper memorabilia is for sale but the music is free. Thousands of hours of anyone you can think of. Go to the URL above, select the tab "Concert Vault", slip on the headphones, and go back to a time when PD was your buddy's nickname. Merry Christmas.

Thanks, Rick!! I saw a program about the vault, but I didn't know the music was online free. What a treat. First stop: Janis Joplin. I saw her at the Fillmore East and met Bill Graham that night, because a friend was on the bill with her. He was in a bad mood! But Janis made me feel high. She was amazing.

Oh, they even have the Rolling Thunder Revue. Great!

I'll check out your other links, too.

Default music vault

Rick--thanks for the link to the music vault--I was at Filmore West Jan 1, 1969, but for the life of me cannot remember what bands we saw there--I remember seeing credence clearwater at the filmore--but that was not for new year's, I do not think...am going to search for the players for that night. perhaps the memories will all return. will have a great time listening to all those bands of my youth!!! and zucchini, you were on the east coast when i was on the west coast. maintain I was never a true Hippie-- was always gainfully employed--another small world tidbit: Janis Joplin grew up in Port arthur, tx--about 20 miles from my home town, though never heard of her until she became famous..enough of the small world stuff--going to listen to The Who .madelyn

As a collector of Zeppelin memorabilia since the 70's, I watched Wolfgang's Vault with great interest. They're actually currently being sued by the Grateful Dead, Led Zep and others over the rights to the items and concerts being sold (and those about to be). So enjoy the free stuff at the website while you can!

And my gift to you all...since we're talking about music and if you haven't checked it out yet...is YouTube! You can find some fun stuff on your favorite artists on there that will certainly bring back some memories.

Oh, and I recently watched some young kid who put videos of himself playing the drums along to Zep songs and while he's no Bonzo, he was pretty darn good. Fun stuff...
