I am actually trying to find help for my grandma. About two years ago, she Started getting a tremor in her hands and was shuffling when walking, And a few other symptoms of Parkinson's which she was then diagnosed with. she was placed on Sinemet, which she took along with a lot of other things to try and stop the nausea and vomiting which were pretty bad, seemed to happen at least a couple of times a day.
11 months after she was diagnosed, she stopped taking her medication and was completely symptom free, and she continued symptom free for seven months until over the space of a couple days she had lots of trouble starting walking, the shuffling started, her balance wasnt very good and she was forgetting things and conversations. That was a couple weeks ago and she is a little better, still has trouble getting going and shuffling, and her memory isn't that great but it is better than it was, and the neurologist has no idea what is wrong. I haven't been able to find any cases like this? Has anyone heard anything like this or is anybody able to refer me to a site or anything??? Thanks! |

Welcome to NeuroTalk:
There is another condition that resembles Alzheimer's and PD. It is called normal pressure hydrocephalus. It has memory loss, shuffling gait and also urinary incontinence when finally severe. It is often overlooked by doctors. Here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_..._hydrocephalus another with more detail: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/n...rocephalus.htm I think it would be worthwhile to explore this possibility with a doctor willing to listen to you.
