Thanks so much for this, very interesting. They still don't know what alpha synculein does, yet they know abnormal clumps of it are not good.
But I wonder-what has happened to this research? This article was dated November of 2008, almost a year ago. Anybody know? Seems something that could help so many would be moved very quickly. |

For more on precliniccal research see the Parkinson;s Pipeline ProjectDatabase: www.pdpipeline.org Cclick on "Database Access Thene click on Rna Interference (RNAi) The latest information in the database is also from Nov.2008. There is also a link to a YouTube video of Drs. Maraganore and Farrer explaining their RNAi Parkinson's research at Mayo. It is interesting that theye are also working with Medtronic to design an infusion delivery catheter to deliver the treatment (like the catheter used for the GDNF infusion trials?) and theye are also including the wiring for a DBS in the same surgery, just in case the new treatment doesn't work (Maybe i read this wrong?) But again, this announcement was made in Nov. 2008. CChecking the Alnylam's website for updates, Parkinson's research is listed at the verey end of the Discoverey phase of preclinical resaerch, with challenges ahead.. http://www.alnylam.com/Programs-and-Pipeline/index.php |
