Happy BD Wide-O !

I can relate to your thoughts about your Dad.

I can still recall being proud (not sure that is the best word) of the birthday when I had lived longer than my Dad. Alcohol abuse was a factor in his early death and I was drinking then.

It was a big wake-up call for me.

That's a real plus....this time you really "'passed the liquor store test". Is this your usual shopping store? Maybe; might be a good idea to not keep tempting fate.

No Gerry. It is an office supply place and just an unusual situation that brought me there twice in just a week.

I have a tough couple months in my personal life coming up. I know I should be going to meetings and in need of a sponsor but can't seem to get the courage to go, but I am not sure I can make it on my own.

I have already lived several years longer than my dear father but his death was not alcohol related and so that gives me survival guilt.

Wide-O, so as strange as it may be, and ironic as you think, I can say with all sincerity, I'm feel blessed to have the opportunity to wish you a very Happy Birthday this year. Your strength and wisdom offered through this site and the friendship you have extended has given me hope on many a day. I wish you a peaceful day filled with harmony and happiness.

I know dates are just symbolic, but still. I have often thought about this moment, and now it seems a bit prosaic. Yet, when I was still drinking heavily, it seemed absolutely unavoidable that I would die around this time. I was totally ready for it, it was a done deal, that's what would happen. I saw the sad irony, the cowardliness even, but it took me a long time before I decided this wasn't going to be my future.

I think it's fair to say we don't always think clearly when under the influence.

SC,
I believe I mentioned to you previously....Without those AA Meetings and her Sponsor; my daughter would not be in recover for the past several years. Yes; even today she still attends meetings weekly and still talks and meets with her sponsor. ..

Over a year ago my daughter became Certified in the areas listed below: (She puts her heart and soul on the line working with those in need as well as their families.)

Certified Recovery Support Specialist
for Mental and Substance Abuse.

....She also became a:
Certified Alcohol &
Drug Counselor (CADC)

If you would like me to talk with her about your situation; Let me know..(also your email address and or phone number if you would like me to have it.) Send me a PM...

Gerry.

Decision made. I can not fight the demons and the pain that sobriety has brought. I will need to try Gab and Ariptylin or whatever that med was. I did not have success in the past but that was several years ago and things have gotten far worse. I am on my knees but I am also on other meds which bring on side effects so they introduce more drugs to counteract those aide effects. I am soooo hesitant to add more but this pain is unsustainable and exhausting. I will try.
