True! I am not 100% yet either, still lingering issues that do not seem to want to go away, but, it's WAY better than where I was.

My balance is still iffy, I walk with a bit of a gait and I can't stand for long periods of time.

One thing that can develop from taking too much B6 for a long time, is gait changes. It is one clinical sign that signals that particular patient, may be intolerant of high B6 therapy. At one time women in the US who had PMS were given by their doctors, 500mg of B6 + other vitamins to treat this. Then the side effects appeared about it being toxic.

So if you are taking B6 supplements it might be a time to stop those for a while. It is medically suggested to not use more than 100mg a day of B6, but we see people coming here to NT using much less who claim neurological side effects.

You can get tested, to see if you are elevated. Or you can just stop any B6, to see if changes occur.

Congrats!

Funny, we just talked about that last 10 to 20% right? It sure would be good to somehow find a way to get there. There are quite a few ways left to try out (like a cheap TENS machine, or Indiba treatments...). For example I found socks that connect to a TENS machine, specifically for (diabetic, but that doesn't matter) neuropathy.

Anyway, oddly enough, I was just cleaning the house - hoovering, steam cleaning, yada yada - bringing trash outside when I suddenly felt... nothing. It was most amazing! I felt no pain or the usual light cramps. Nothing at all! This is a first, since july 2010.

Sure, it didn't last for more than 10 minutes, and the light unease came back after that, but somehow it gives me hope to keep trying.

A million thanks to all of the contributors in this thread.

I have confirmed small fiber neuropathy by biopsy and wanted to ask the group a question (responding either publically or by private message, either is fine and immensely appeciated).

I am trying my best to investigate the cause of my neuropathy. My concern began in my reddened and sensitive palms. Now, a year and a half later I have penile sensory loss.

Has anyone else here experienced this loss of sensation? Last fall, at the height of my anxiousness and wprry, I was getting numb sensations on my scalp, my lips and would get so scared it felt as if I was watching my life as if it were a movie. Luckily, that subsided, feeling regained and I am hoping this follows the same course. All other functions remain the same. The sensory loss doesn't make sense in the length dependent small fiber neuropathy format.

I am completely alcoohol free now, though suspect alcohol to be the cause.

Thank you in advance. I am extremely worried and appreciate any insight you are able to share.

Icehouse, you might want to try a yoga class. I had a wonderful instructor who saw me flopping around and unable to hold my balance. She worked with me and in no time at all I was greatly improved. It really was quite miraculous and despite the progression of my neuropathy, my balance has remained good. Yoga also helped that flat foot walking style that some of us complain about as opposed to the normal heel toe steps.

Yoga? Really? Interesting....I will give it some thought for sure!

Onlyhuman, congrats about being alcohol free and it sounds like you have made some gains. As to your other issue I hope you find some answers.

Several local clinics will do a full work up at the "low, low price of $69, new patients, limited time only". Supposeably the analysis will tell you the extent of the neuropathy and if they are able to help but it sounds like a sales pitch. They do not accept insurance and their therapies include the lasers, massage, electrical stimulus among others. These programs are popping up all over and I have to wonder if they have any merit but I am not in the financial situation to throw away money unless I can find out if in fact they are legit and effective. In the meantime abstinence from alcohol, good nutrition, vitamins, exercise and hope and prayers are my agenda.

1700 days today. Also close to 80,000 cigs not smoked. Money not spent on both now exceeds $50,000.

Totally regret not putting that money in a piggy bank daily. ;)
