Default Stem Cell Therapy ?? where is it at ??

I was trawling the Internet this evening (for a change) and came across an 'article' on Stem Cell research and Neuropathic pain. The article was on the 'London Pain Consultants' website, and whilst I realise it may be slightly advertorial so am immediately skeptical, (The article was 'posted' by by Dr C.A.Jenner MB BS, FRCA) It still made me wonder if there is any validity in the claims the article made. "Increasing potential for curing Neuropathic pain" etc. As a young person, with *something* Neuropathic going on, I guess I'll be looking to the future of medical science to provide some relief in years to come. Apologies if this has been discussed before, or if it's just false hope floating around on the Internet. The URL is below. Hope it's okay to post that here. I'm guessing the different types of Neuropathies/Neuronopathies/Ganglionopathies would have varying chances of successful treatment with Stem Cell therapy. Has there been any discussion as to the availability of this sort of treatment for the average sufferer in the near future? or is it still very much in the experimental stages? Be great to know more about what the future may hold.

It will be a while, I think. The last I saw about stem cells, said that it is difficult to "control" them so they do what you want them to. Some studies, the cells have died. Some have made excess tissue which presses on things, etc.

Some of the PD members here have gone or are planning on going to Germany. It is frightfully expensive for the PD treatment.
(Parkinson's). You can search their forum "stem cells Germany" should bring those posts up.

Well there are other places that reportedly getting good results, theres doctor in india ( cant remember the name ) that seems to be getting a lot of press for it .

Also places like Brazil ( i know somoene from there planning to get it ) are pretty cheap ( 500 - 600 dollars ) per treatment .

If it can help somatosenry cortex of the brain - that also affects many other issues I happen to have i.e. loss of touch etc then why wouldnt it have a positive effect for pn too ?

Of course, Im no scientist so my knowledge of it is minimal at best.

I'll probably be dead by the time there any cure for this - so what do I do ?
Live miserably like some pill junkie and in the process just make the pharm drug industry even more powerul than it already is , is influencing treatments / studies ?

You just have to look at what its done for cancer research i.e. still no cure after 30 yrs to see where that route goes.

It is pretty common knowledge the FDA is in Big Pharma's pocket. It is more profitable for Pharmaceutical companies and the economy in general to not have a cure, but prolong the illness. I firmly beleive that government is holding everyone back from these things. Access to stemcells for research were put on hold by George W. when he was in office, now just starting to be released by Obama. South Korean's supposedly discovered cure for cancer a couple years ago and this information just disappeared after a short stint. This is all a result of Capitalism at its worst and maybe something that goes a little deeper. There are plenty of homeopathic and herbal/supplemental remedies that are very effective for PN. We are all taught to beleive that conventional medicine and pharmaceuticals are the best, healthiest and only effective way of dealing with our condition. This is flat out not the case.

Work being done in Korea is similar to work being done here.

Using virus outer coats to deliver drugs to targeted cancers.
Still in the testing stage. Also coming is nano-delivery.

You can search Google, I found lots of various exciting new RESEARCH.

If there is a cure, it'll become known thru the research of many organizations. The TNA is just one, that is not in the big pharma pocket- there are others. Until then, if I can take a pill that makes me feel better, I could care less as to the politics. Just make it affordable, thru masss buying power and negotiated prices.

I have read predictions that in the near future taking pills will become obsolete.

The drug research is focusing on biological interventions that are immensely expensive and require invasive injection into the body or spinal cord or brain. It will become very political as to who will be approved for these new treatments. Money will rule even more so than it does now.
