Default Lyrica vs gabapentin

I have had an unbearable two weeks with pain, possibly caused by the storms we have been having (up to 100 miles per hour winds) or a Chinese buffet meal( I was invited to this restaurant by friends and didn't want to be the party pooper and refuse because of MSG in the food). Anyway I decided I needed to visit my GP to review my medication, I asked if I could be moved to Lyrica from Gabapentin, I was saving this switch for a rainy day but after the two weeks I have had this rainy day is here.
I have been instructed to take 50mg 3times per day for the first week as well as reducing the Gabapentin over the next week. I am wary of doing this as a friend told me he had to get the Gabapentin out his system before he started Lyrica, any advice will be welcome. I would also like to know if this drug is much better than Gabapentin ( I have been taking this for 4 years and feel it no longer works for me).

Sorry about your pain, you need to get the fixed ASAP but Im not sure if the lyrica will help if the gaba didnt. They are very similar and I think from the same class. Your doctor is right in what he tells you and I would follow his advice.

If it were me I would ask for amyitriplyne or any other type of pain killer that would be totally new to your system for a stronger effect.

Thanks for your reply, I did ask to change from Imipramine to Amytriptiline also but my doc said one med at a time. I felt so old, she was in her early twenties, probably her first placement but hey ho she maybe better than the oldies with fresh ideas.
