Default Sea snail drug to treat neuropathic pain

I saw a show on Discovery Channel. They were talking about a new drug in development originated from the venom of a sea snail. However I noticed the show was from 2001. Does anyone knows what happen to this drug?

Is it this one?

Thanks

I think this drug is available now and is called Prialt:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ziconotide

This drug has been a dismal failure. Many people have been on the net complaining about it...causing psychosis and hallucinations. It is enormously expensive, and has to be administered via spinal drug pumps which are painful and expensive to place and maintain. Monthly costs for this are in the thousands and many end up with the drug removed from the pumps.

This site gives the FDA medwatch reports of adverse events with Prialt:
http://patientsville.com/medication/...de_effects.htm

This drug is a dismal flop and illustrates how reality can really develop from press releases.

hmmm. When I saw the show on Discovery channel (I love this channel) it was so promissing. I guess I know what you mean ... Anyway I hope the sea coral is in fact what it promices. You know that i did some research about Neurotrophin 3. And it was abandon because there might be a relation between its usage and a growth of cancer cells...life is realy different from what we see in the american movies

Yes, one has to realize that there are no absolutes in medicine.

I've been trained to accept that. People are all different and every drug and treatment may have a trade off.

Most of the "growth factors" have been hard to harness.
Even the stem cells are failing for Parkinson's, where they thought they would help.
