Has anyone had this surgery to free up the nerves to allow better blood flow. My neurologist says to stay away from it. I learned of this early in my condition but very few doctors were trained to do this. I just found out that one of them has a practice here in Syracuse. (Mrs D, Where are you?)

This procedure is for compressive entrapments.

The two most common causes of entrapments can be low thyroid and diabetes.
Fluid retention is a double edged sword...Neurontin and Lyrica actually CAUSE fluid retention and in this case will make entrapment neuropathy worse!

I don't recall from our PM conversations, that you have diabetic issues yet. So I don't think this invasive procedure may work for you at this time. The risks of invasive surgery can be RSD resulting. This is a chronic reaction to surgery and most often comes when the foot is tinkered with or damaged. Even a sprain may bring it on. Basically RSD is awful and
sometimes for life.

I'd say, unless you are in a "bad place" pain wise, that you are probably not a candidate YET for surgery like this.

Surgery in the foot is a HUGE problem. I had experience with it when I was 12 and had a bleeding tumor removed from my instep. It took more than a year to heal!

Wait Dr Dellon? Or am I confused. The TTS surgery? Sorry if this is the wrong thing you are talking about. I was suggested this surgery at the very start and I am really glad I did not do it. After I saw so many neuro,pain docs,I mean I could go on and they said this surgery is one of the last possible things you want to do because there is so much concern you could damage another nerve. I don't like to say negative things about treatment or docs because you never know what may help a person that may not help another. I just have heard a lot of bad about this so please research. I know I was at a point in my pain where I felt things could not get any worse but somehow they can. Not to be a downer just be careful.

I certainly will not be jumping into anything. I had kind of forgotten about this until someone at work left an article on my desk about a local plastic surgeon who performs the Dellon. However what struck me was that it said that the best results come from an early diagnosis. Mostly from diabetes wich I do not have. It is very easy to panic when you suddenly start havining numb feet and the doctors seem to know nothing. I had my first followup after a year since this started. Nothing has changed much. That is great news. My neurologist said, maybe your improving. I'm not convinced if that. I think i've just managed it better with bigger shoes etc. He doesn't want to see me for a year. So that's why I'm here. To learn and try non invasive stuff that the neurologist never mentioned. Thanks for all the input...

As we age, things change. Injuries take longer to heal, nerves get more sensitive to damage, etc.

Many people have compressive issues. They can be from metabolic causes (thyroid/diabetes) or from mechanical compressions.

If you take the nutrients to help your nerves heal, if this is a simple compressive issue, they will get better, or at least not progress further.

B12, B-complex, fish oil, provide the methylation enhancement to fix myelin damage.

Acetyl carnitine, CoQ-10 and r-lipoic acid will help the mitochrondria function better.

If you drink alcohol--you need to consider benfotiamine (a form of thiamine).

Magnesium and your amino acids can improve blood flow to the feet.

If you smoke, you need to really quit. (men especially who smoke can get peripheral artery disease, more than females, but both sexes are at risk from smoking).

Do not have this procedure. I had this surgery in Syracuse an was left with very sensitive feet. The pain after the surgery was worse than electicity. I stll have "lightning" in feet almost constantly. I had no relief from the neuropathy

I went to the Dellon office in Baltimore where Dr Dellon works, for cash only, and some of his assistants will take insurance. To make a long story short- They used their "special" contraption that showed neuropathy, of course, and informed me I would be a great candidate. So I had the surgery and it did absolutely NOTHING for me. Another MD making a killing on our PN pain.
