Smile Finally getting Relief from PN

All,

It has been 2-3 weeks now that my PN symptoms have lessened. I've been to weekly accupuncture appointments for 3 months now, started on Nortryptiline just over a month ago, take 600mg Alpha-Lipoic Acid daily and I'm finally feeling some relief from PN pain. Shooting pains and shocking/jolts are way down, and burning in my feet is 50% less. While not all gone the pain is now tolerable. I still can not walk more than 30 yards without my feet killing me...but this is all a start. Just thought I'd share.

Dewey

Knew it had to be to good to be true. The burning and shooting pains have returned. I am still very careful about what I eat, staying on a schedule for meds and it has returned. All well...back to the drawing board. Good thing is I meet with my neurologist next week to discuss yet another EMG, blood tests, and MRI results. Sure hope the fine folks at UNM can come up with a diagnosis so we have an idea for treatment. Just keeping at it and hoping for the best from the doc.

Dewey there are plateaus and valleys involved in the healing process that has been reported by people on PN boards. In other words there are periods of time when symptoms get worse again then resume getting better. I dont know what your history is but it is only over a period of time you can tell which direction you are going in. If you have small fiber neuropathy you would need a skin biopsy to really tell what is going on with you. An emg would not be able to detect the damage to the small fibers. If im telling you something you already know i apologize.

I knew a few people from the Belen and Moriarity areas back in the mid seventies. They must be grandparents by now..ha!

Echoes is spot on with what can happen in the healing process, you can get times of lessor symptoms, then what feels like flaring of symptoms follows on, there is no set patterns either but lessor symptoms at differant times sounds promising to me, I hope it is the healing process your experiencing.
