Default At my wit's end

As a long time observer, I thought it was time I told my familiar story. I'm approaching geezerhood at 61, though still hoping to do some traveling, and maybe even establish a relationship. Since PN has enveloped both feet in the last couple of years, those hopes are becoming more unrealistic by the day. With the exception of Doc appointments and an occasional trip to the therapy pool, my days are spent in my recliner or in bed, trying to find a position to mitigate the constant pain of PN.
Seems the best the Neuro Docs can offer is an ointment that's superficial at best, and lasts an hour or two at the most. Hardly an effective treatment for PN. MrsD, I've taken your advice and consumed lots of B12 and B Complex.
Seems the most insidious nature of PN is the debilitating depression that more often than not goes hand in hand with PN, and I've got it in spades. Seeing a psychiatrist for anti-depressants, and a talk therapist who's getting tired of listening to me. I spoke to my daughter the other day, and mentioned I was having a pretty hard time with the PN. She suggested I see therapists and such to deal with it, and I told her I had, but they had all shot themselves. A lame joke.
Yo beatle, I too am privileged to live in CO, where weed is legal, but I'm having a hard time finding the CBD caps or edibles, and I'm in the Denver/Boulder area! Any guidance would be much appreciated. I'm an old hippie and not opposed to inhaling, but I'd rather go the purer capsule or edible route.
Anyway, that's my story, which most of you are quite familiar with. My question is, how do you have a life? Thanks for listening....Kirby

Red face Finding a life

Hey Kirby, I too am on the threshold of geyserhood at 62. I also spend too much time on the bed and lift chair, watching TV. I usedto, would still, inhale. Even though it has been a long time ago(30+ yrs of company drug testing). I have kept the love of music in almost all forms, and now that I have time to waste, no luck here in Texas finding weed that isn't sold under scary conditions. I bet that the sense of guilt would still come back that I was wasting time anyway. Time, that word has more than two edges. Pursuing joy is hard as I don't know what would be the best way to spend my time. I guess we are all stumbling through and are jealous of people that have a true passion. I have tried many outlets and was competent in any endeavour(except those requiring talent). I may find an organization that needs volunteers. The old saying is you can get used to almost anything. I hope that you don't get freaked and rush yourself. Your troubles are shared by many and if you stay out and about, answers will come. Chance encounters happen everyday at Wal-Mart. Don't be a putttz like I was and wasn't smart enough to ask for a phone #. Never saw her again, Yet. In the meantime, keep your blood in good shape and exercise to tolerance. I have, in the past, wallowed for weeks at a time. I still shed a tear once in a while but things are better now. They will be for you too. I will send you my address and when you get connected, send me a couple of keys,OK? Good Luck Ken in Texas

Hi Kirby,

Sorry to hear of your plight, and I can certainly understand your frustration.

I have idiopathic small fiber neuropathy, and am just beginning to digest the prospects of having a chronic painful condition that could possibly worsen over time. I just may have to move to Colorado at some point, which is not such a bad prospect given how much I love it out there.

If you've been following this forum for awhile, you've probably read about alpha lipoic acid. I can't tell you with certainty that it's helped me, but something has reduced my pain and discomfort by about 50% since the spring, and it's the only thing I can really point to. I guess I believe it must be helping since I'm gladly spending the $16/month to keep taking it. You can do some Googling about it if you haven't already. The way I looked at it initially, it couldn't hurt.

Here's the brand I'm taking that I get from Amazon. I take a capsule twice a day.

Doctor's Best Best Stabilized R-Lipoic Acid Featuring Bioenhanced Na-RALA (100 mg)

Good luck, and if you're an old hippie, hopefully you have some good old hippie music to bring you solace. CSN is what soothes my soul on a bad day.

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

If you are taking a drug known to cause PN, you'll have to consider discontinuing it and discussing that with your doctor.

Statins, and Fluoroquinolones (Cipro, Levaquin, and Avelox) are the most common but there are others too.

A stupid question, but how does one post their reply below the box with the text they're replying to?

When you hit "quote" the quote appears with brackets around it.
[quote] is the first thing you see.

Place your cursor in front of the [ bracket and hit enter a couple of times. The quote will then move down and you can put your cursor back up and type above it.

The same for if you want to type below it.
Place the cursor after the ] in and hit enter a couple of times and your text will appear below it.

Hit plain old reply in the lower left and no quote will appear.

If you want to quote someone, go to their post in the thread and hit "quote" not Q-reply. Then that quote will appear in the new text box. Q-reply only quotes the immediate post above you.
