Had a lovely spring vacation driving thru N.E.
(a 7-1/2 hr drive from home, to my son's apt in Lowell. MA)
Saw Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Mass, Upstate NY.

Drove to Kinnebunkport Maine to have lobster-roll for lunch
(and lobster dinners, are everywhere). sea-food galore -
mussels, clams, cod, shrimp, sea bass, salmon, haddock,
swordfish,, and on & on.... (don't wanna even check my mercury levels)

Seaports, towns, Historic Sites
(Sleepy Hollow Cemetery was awesome )
Took a total of 332 pix on my digital camera,
and 10 on my cell phone


.......and one day in Boston that was the most painful,
miserable day I've spent in years!

We took the train from Lowell, Mass
(my son's working at an Equity, Repertory theatre there)
to Boston (45 mins) and relied on public transportation (bummer)
tour trolley (big waste), subway (packed like sardines-SRO),
and must've walked at least 3 miles in one day (a lot-too much for me)- all in the cold (45-50 degrees), windy, and wet (rain, all day) and every cab we tried to hail, passed us by.
So we walked, & walked, & walked, & walked &......
Legs hurt, feet were on fire and hurt galore, empysema was terrible, hip arthritis was painful, barometric pressure caused havoc with the PN. The only plus was a rest-stop (there were quite a few, for me), to have a pint of Guinness.

A day I'll try to forget, but doubt that I ever will.

But the other 7 were just lovely (after recuperating from Boston)
And I'm back, being irascible and annoying, as ever.

I love Maine, too! I wouldn't mind living there, if it weren't for the black flies in spring... I found I was allergic to them, and then one bit me on the eyelid, and I had a staph infection from that, 104 temp and almost died! Ended up in Blue Hill Hospital where they said I was moments away from a brain abscess!

But it is lovely there and the food fab too!

Sorry you had a low barometric attack... I get those too...and they are not fun! My son doesn't like Boston too much...very hard to drive there, and get around!!

But at least you had some nice moments, Bob!

Welcome back. I am glad you had 7 good days though sorry about the one in hell. It sounds very painful. I give you a lot of credit for going. The combo between the weather and too much walking would give me a high flare up too. The seafood sounds amazing. That is my favorite nice restaurant meal is loster tails even since I was a little girl. Hope you get some rest.

Envy the lobster. I worked for a company based in Boston for several years, and was there every quarter for meetings. What would have been a great thrill for me was the seafood, but only a couple of years before nearly died from eating shrimp. Turns out I'm allergic to shell fish. Ate it all of my adult life, and had an allergic reaction at age 42 - go figure. So, while everyone else was happily breaking open soft shells at company expense, I had to content myself with just plain fish

I am so sorry Boston was such a bad day for you. It really is a great city if you don't try to drive. Since I spent so much time there, I learned how to get around. I typically stayed through the weekend after the meetings to play tourist. The first couple of weekends playing tourist I thought my legs were going to fall off - and that was before PN. But, I still loved it. I'm a history buff, and really enjoyed visiting the places I had only read about. Took several train trips up the coast as far as New Hampshire. You can do that in a day and back, but I typically found a B&B for overnight.

I didn't make it to Maine until after the onset of PN. It was an 11-day cruise I took with my parents to see New England/Canada in the fall. It boarded in NYC, went up to Nova Scotia, down the St. Lawrence into Quebec, and back down the coast into NYC. One of the stops was Bar Harbor, ME - wish we could have more than 4 hours there, and I didn't have PN.

On the return trip, we stopped for a day in Boston. By then, both my Mom (who has her own health problems) and I were exhausted, but my Dad wanted to see the sites so bad, I was glad I had spent enough time there to show him the sites and still make it easy on me (Mom never left the ship).

Even then, I know he didn't get to see everything he wanted. PN can be just as hard on family and friends, as it is on us.

Sorry you had a bad time in Boston, Bob. But glad you had some lobstah! And welcome back.

Sounds like a great trip, except for one overdone day. I have been trying to get my field planted. Almost done now! Every year it doubles and I am over my property line now....fortunately my neighbor does not care....lol. less weeds for him to cut. The 'big' farmers are out today, spraying like crazy, so I got chased indoors after awhile.

mmmm.....lobster! That would make my vacation!!

Glad you are back and I am sure you will recover from your bad day in Boston. I drove thru there once, never again.

I do believe that Boston will not be on my list of favorite visits
Rested up now, and back to the daily grind.
When you get back from vacation and the ca-ca hits the fan,
you sometimes wonder if it was worth it..........
......ahhh....... yup.........it was !
