My pn started after some heavy weeks of walking in old shoes.
I had MRI of lumbar done, MRI C spine, consulted spine surgeon, 2 neurologists at Shands - 2 podiatrists, batteries of blood work, and a Partridge in a pear treeeeee It all came down to "idiopathic". The lumbar pain didn't start until a couple of months after the feet started buzzing. Now, I am getting sciatic type pain below the left glute. I also find that if I lie down to sleep at night, by morning, the buzzing is gone until I get on my feet again. Since I have no defecit in motor strength or control and had no back pain when I saw the neuros, they ruled out the lumbar. I am starting to wonder now, however. ????

I attributed my glut and hip pain to sciatica, and low and behold, it was trochanteric bursitis.
Bursitis can feel peculiarly like nerve pain. It isn't aching all the time...it is sharp, burning and nerve like much of the time. It can extend to the gluteus medius, making the rump area painful to the touch, which makes sitting difficult. It is quickly relieved by a cortisone shot to the trochanteric area. You may want to have this checked out. It runs similarly along the same line as sciatica.....but, it is easily relieved....unless it is recurrent as mine is.

Spondylitis can also feel this way. I suffer from Ankylosing spondolytis it and it waxes and wanes. It starts as lower back pain and then moves into my left hip and gluteal area. It tends to hurt severely when I have been moving about and then I move into a reclining position... I believe cyclelops has the right idea, a cortisone shot, or even a dose pack of prednisone. Usually works for me.
Hope you feel better... Mere |
