Nothing profound...no new research.....just philosophy....
I remember the story of a man who was complaining about his wife and daughter and how much stress he had in his life....I believe his rabbi told him to successively move in his in-laws, 'out-laws', friends, and even farm animals....with each move IN of some person or group, the guy complained even more vociferously to the rabbi. ![]() Then the rabbi had him move out each family member, friend and farm animal in succession, and in the end, the man felt great with his wife and daughter, and had no complaints. ![]() I believe this may be the secret to a happy life..... I believe when my now finally employed son in law (husband of my oldest 'chosen child' moves out)....(not so much my daughter and granddaughter)....I will feel SOOOO much better that even my neuropathy will not plague me again. ![]() I have learned the cure to the nation's problem of unemployment, for the unemployed person, who has exhausted 99 weeks of benefits, is to move in with their mother in law (AKA some one like me), and try to rearrange my kitchen..... ![]() I have learned that hospitality is not always the best thing to offer others....a strategically placed kick in the butt is.....so is a ride to every temporary staffing agency in the county.....ala, a new job....and a U-Haul soon to be in my driveway. Of course....I need a new TV and washer, since Mr. Wizard broke them while trying to fix them after he messed with the digital things.... You know you are in trouble when your son in law tells the repair man that 'I found the manual and tried to fix it' ![]() ![]() So, it only works on quick wash....sunshine disinfects, no?? ![]() I have re-learned how good laundry smells when hung out on the line....only now I get to buy 'eco-diapers' for 10 times the price I paid for them when my own children were babes.....because...... My other 'chosen child' has left me her 5 1/2 MONTH old child a bit earlier than her planned deployment ![]() ![]() Hmmm.....I will be like the man who complained to his rabbi that his household was too stressful....I am so looking forward to an empty nest....and just hubby, the dogs and my chickens......and my neuropathy! I may feel like cr@p today....but it can only get better, right? ![]()

Well, thank you, I just read your post and was laughing the whole way thru' and didn't notice my hurting feet at all! I'll have to tell that Rabbi's story to the ladie's Bible study group tomorrow. Some are always complaining about family and in-law members and they don't even live together!
And yes, just one thought of what my choices were if I stopped working when PN hit was enough to keep me at the job. It was there or sell my place and move in with my Mom. I love her but know I couldn't last there more than a few days, I've tried it! Thanks again! |

I student taught this spring in a 3rd grade classroom and we read a play that was very similar to that... only it wasn't a rabbi... just a wise man named Bartholomew. The play was called "The Crowded House".

You have made me laugh, the very same children that told me when they turned 18 they were moving out have all rotated through the door a time or two. I was just enough of a shrew to make them want to leave.....and they did, no empty nest here and there never will be. I must count my blessings, even though it is sometimes through clenched teeth to have them all in my life.
Thank you so much for the laugh, the temperature is rising and the burn is rearing its ugly head! |

Ah yes, I am perfecting the behavior of the shrew 'mother-in-lawticus', of the Northern Hemisphere.

As an actor, I have found that if say
"WHAT THE HE11 IS GOING ON HERE" , using my 'voice of God' voice- ![]() (projecting to the back balcony of a 2000 seat theater) things quiet down around me, at least for a while. ![]() (also.... grandchildren under the age of 5, start to cry ![]()

LOL, the booming voice schtick....yeah that works, but not for me....I sound like a raging hen. One syllable from hubby in booming voice and I swear the world is silent. With such a powerful weapon, I can see why he seldom uses it....it makes me cry too!
![]() I do a bit more of the 'looks of daggers' and silent pouting these days....I am more of a post menopausal Brunhilde. I also have the 'nag' but that seems far less effective these days...no one listens. No one told me this child wakes TWICE per nite for feeding....Lord. ![]() Good thing he is cute during the day.....never the less, this will be a looooong 18 months. This too shall pass. I refer to my adopted children as 'chosen' children, since that was the term applied to these kids....you know, to make them feel special.....my 'regular' kids, whatever name one chooses to them....bio, birth, whatever are apparently lower on the foodchain. Well, I would do this for any of my kids, but, it is a lot to ask. 'Chosen' has apparently conferred some sense of entitlement....well, whatever, this little boy had no choice in his matter, and would likely rather be with a doting mom (if he had one), than an ailing grandma....yet, he smiles so sweetly at me, that it warms my heart, and I don't feel old and ailing ![]()
