Default Update on my dad its been a long time

Hi, I have not been on this site for a very long time not sure that anyone will remember me. Will give you a quick recap. My dad was diogonosed with PN 7 years ago whn I was pregnant with my first child, my sister lives in Australia and when he first got diagonsed he was due to fly out there and we were very worried that he would not make it since then he has flown there 2 more times. He is now 72, and for the most part still does ok, he will still kick a ball in the garden with my son when we visit.

He has just had a nerve biopsy taken and the results were not good the specialist said that they still did not know what was causing it, and that the outlook was it will never get any better probly just worse. This has set my dad back (as it seems to every time he sees his specialist) and he has been very depressed. So again this leads me to this site, I was wondering if anyone can recommend any drugs vitamins that may be of any help, anything really.. positive I could tell my dad. He did take B12 for a long time but stopped because he said it was not doing anything, not sure if this is true as I always seen a small improvement when he was taking it. my dad does not have a computer so wont visit here himself. I know when I have previouly been on this site and said what people have said it has helped him.

Thanks Tracey

I would think that your Dad needs more tests to hopefully determine what is causing it. Especially, since the specialist said that it would only get worse.

Default And--

--do you have a report on the nerve biopsy? While it may not point to a cause, it may indicate what types of changes/damage were foundin the samples, which might help us give some better advice.

I spoke to my dad they did not give him any results just said that it was in his muscels and with out finding out what was causing it they could not do anything. I know over the years they have done tests not sure what they have been, but have came up with no answers.

I think that you were here before as 'Tricksy', right?

Supplements can help regain energy and outlook.

Start back on Methyl-cobalamin B12, sublingual -
at least 2,000-5,000mcg/day

CoQ10, ALA-Alpha Lipoic Acid (RLA if you can get it),
fish oil
(Omega 3), & Vitamin D3, to name a few.

Go to MrsD's posts on the 'vitamins.....suppliments' forum of this site. (you can find it fast in the 'Forum Jump' box at the bottom right of this page)

get a copy of the nerve biopsy Tricky and see what it says, what conclusions it comes to. Otherwise except for taking the supplements that Bob talks about all anyone can do is speculate.
