Is it a sharp pain in your buttock?
Because you were doing some bending/standing/bending type movements, I wonder if you have sciatica? If you can....... * Lie on the floor close to a chair/sofa. * Move your buttocks towards the chair, so that your buttocks are almost touching the seat. * Bend your knees and rest your leg from the knee down, on the chair. Your body should now be in a "Z" position. If the pain eases, then you most probably have sciatic pain as this position removes the pressure on the spinal nerves. Here's a link that describes sciatic nerve pain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sciatica PS. There are other conditions that will cause buttock pain, but sciatica is by far the most common reason.

I am dealing with butt pain right now. The gluteus maximus muscle can be very painful for so many of us. I get pain on both butt cheeks, usually not at the same time, thankfully. I sat on an ice pack last night which did help. As Koala says, there are exercises that help keep that muscle stretched.
Day before yesterday, I started to get this cold spot behind/below my right knee, the butt muscle was already hurting. It hit me yesterday afternoon, either my neuropathy was flaring causing a nerve to make the muscle spasm, or the muscle spasm was cauing nerve pain...which ever, I want it to stop! I did just return from vacation, driving 800 miles there, then 800 miles back and I am sure that is part of the issue. I have lost a lot of weight this year and my butt has no padding anymore, so I have been having lots of issues with pain. http://ezinearticles.com/?Pain-in-th...rome&id=110565

This is the first time I've heard of anyone with np complain of buttock pain, so I'm excited to know this. My buttock pain is only when I sit, and its closer to the rectum area than the muscles in check area, but it can be both. You mentioned sitting for long periods is painful and I totally understand as I have to take a break every hour or two. The pressure point also includes the backs of the thighs.
Does anyone else have similar problems???? |

Yup, me. Also knees and front of thighs, calves, and shins. Um, I guess that pretty much describes my entire legs. It's a surface burning pain in my case.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
Koala I did try the Z thing on my chair and it did ease it, it does seem to go from one side then the other. I have been dx with Degenerative disc disease, spondylotic disc bulges, facet joint degenerative changes in my lower lumbar levels. as well as SFPN Maybe that is the cause? could that cause sciatica? I also get a lot of thigh pain but it is a the front and side of my thighs. It is really a pain in the butt (pun intended) not being able to do the things I want to do, like cleaning my house and going shopping. not that I like doing housework but I do like to see it tidy, I have a good vacuumn cleaner - a dyson with a power head so that does help it is not so back breaking. It is so good being able to talk to you all knowing we are going through smimilar things. My doctor has said to me all that can be done for me now is to treat the pain, so I will just keep popping the pain killers. Thanks for your help.

I have lost a lot of weight this year and now, my butt pain is worse. My bottom just can't get use to the missing padding. My pain is worse standing up than sitting, as a rule. The muscles ball up and get even more painful.

With me, buttock pain is spondylitis. It is inflammation in the joint space between the hip and lower back. It can be especially difficult getting up from a sitting position.
